Title: Uprated clutch help! info needed
Post by: seanule on 20 December 2013, 12:46
Car is currently revo stage 1 and experienced clutch slip the other day in 6th gear, maybe time for an uprated clutch and more power

Narrowed my choices to the ones shown below, seen many reviews from US forums on these clutches but not soo much on here, anyone running these clutches, good bad experiences?

leaning toward the sachs sre performance to maintain an oem feel and still be covered to 400lbs/ft torque

anyhow here are the finalists

Sachs SRE performance clutch from darkside developments - ₤1100 fitted

Southbend stage 2 daily 'silent revised' - ₤670

Southbend Stage 3 drop in disk – ₤244

I ran a Sachs in my Scirocco with stock DMF and found it a bit heavy great on open road but not in traffic

I just had a Helix put on our Mk5 with a new dmf for £1k including fitting, I prefer it over the Sachs as it's firmer but fine in stop start situations

I know people who have gone Southend without any issues

Any chatter issues with the helix clutch? Thats my biggest concern, my previous car was a clio 182 with the heaviest clutch known to mankind so i should be ok on that front

I was also advised to stay away from fitting the same flywheel again with a new clutch as it would wear faster and cause rubbing/noise issues, any truth in this? :undecided:

Helix has been a joy with no chatter, my wife hated the sachs but has had not complaints as the Helix is on her car

I kept original DMF on the Sachs but replaced it this time as were signs of where, Alex at AKS has been doing good deals on the Helix

I put a Sachs in on my Rocco at 30k and the ran the car for another 25k on Stage 2

Helix has only been in the last 1k, stock clutch lasted 70k on Stage 1 so been running 300bhp

I fitted a Sachs in mine after experiencing clutch slip with the Revo stage 1. At first it was very heavy and judder but the judder goes when bedded in and pedal you get used to. The pedal feel is lighter now compared to what it first was. I too kept the original DMF. Been in now about 5k and love it. When it was first fitted it felt like a remap again with all the power being able to be used now.

Thanks for the info! I think I'm gonna wait til around February to purchase the sachs kit, clutch is still holding up fine unless I rip the arse out of it

Guy at dark side was gonna do me a new luk flywheel for 275 so a think I will just put that in aswell to save me doing the full clutch twice down the line
