so I have a new jvc head unit to install and it has a microphone lead coming out of the back - any tips on the best routing of the wire and siting of the mike?
thanks
-
Depends on the length of the cable. I'll be fitting one after christmas, I plan on running it under the steering column and up the a-pillar
-
There is a parrot kit with mic fitted in mine.. was not fitted by me.. but was feed through the a piller and then along the roof and clipped near the side view mirror into the headliner. Ill get some pics up.

Exactly what i did with mine. I pulled the door seal off and fed it under the roof lining and dow the a pillar into the side of dash (fuses) and under the steering and into the dvd player

Thanks, need to measure, but looks like cable is long enough to site mike near rear view mirror and run cable behind head lining and behind trim down A pillar. Haven't figured out how easy it is to run cable behind panelling under steering column yet, but sounds like that is the best way. If cable not long enough then guess mike will have to go at top of A pillar...

Take it through the glovebox. It will be easier less trim to take off
-
I simply fed mine from the stereo past the fuse box and up the pillar you can the see the wire at all works perfect
-
thanks, never thought of glove box route - seemed more intuitive to stay driver's side

Up the A pillar for me too

Pretty much all set now, except arial cable has a blue wire coming out of it and the radio will not play AM radio - presume the two issues are connected, but don't know how to resolve...
any more input please?

Blue cable is power for amplified aerial isn't it?
-
seller's site says
NOTE: Aerial Adaptor blue wire is connected to the back of the car stereo where there is a blue wire thats says antenna remote out or ant remote out.
but head unit does not have a blue wire coming out of it. there is a blue wire coming out of it (or the harness plug at least) but that is labelled "steering wheel remote" so I don't fancy playing with that...
should the blue wire from the antenna go into one of the gaps on the wiring harness plug that fits into the back of the head unit? and if so which one....

Is this any help?

Dom - wow! Not sure of answer to my problem yet, but would be amazed if its not in there somewhere...
-
Right, final thanks to everybody for their help; everything now working beautifully, just have to shuffle the huge wiring harness into place in the daylight in order to be able to secure the head unit in the dash.
Turns out the microphone wire was the least of my problems!
For what it's worth i secured the mike into the headlining of the panel that hides the sunroof motor and then ran the wire inside the headlining and down the inside of the A pillar trim and through the fusebox and finally under the steering column...
