I've had a good search but couldn't find what I was after. Could someone point me in the direction of a guide to rebuilding a cylinder head for an AUM engine please? Thanks.

What are gonna try and do? Most the stuff in a cylinder head is pretty generic. There isn't much inside a 1.8t that is different.

Rebuild after cambelt failure. The variable valve timing is something which I don't want to get wrong too.

The vvt system in our cars is nothing like the vvtl systems you see in Hondas, all it does is changes where the tension is on the chain to slightly alter the phase of one of the cams to allow more valve overlap to help emissions. So really it's just a slightly different cam chain tensioner.

Ought to be easy for someone like me then.
Where can I buy valves etc for my head? There's nothing on ECP or GSF. A few names I've not heard of on ebay. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Supertech do aftermarket valves for our 1.8t, they come highly recommended. Standard valves can more than likely be purchased from VW dealer.

Cheers, I'll check them out and see how they price, I'm not looking to uprate anything, it's got 148k on the clock, otherwise a good car, so just want to keep it running.

I would only really bother changing valves if I was to chase big power. Otherwise I would have them checked to see if they are straight, then just lap them back in and do a vacuum test. Pretty much all I did on my rebuild and a few other bits.

When i did a car i removed the valves and put one in a drill and spun it up and if there bent you can see it. :)

A little bit cowboy but it works! It'll save you removing all the valves too! http://youtu.be/reAuAbazfOc

Why dont you get a 2nd hand head? I made the mistake of getting my top end done when i could have picked 1 up for alot cheaper.
