hi, just a quick question, i looked on parkers car guide, and i couldnt actually find the mpg for a B reg mk 2 golf, ... anyone have any ideas?
-
any particular flavour of b reg golf?
-
ha, well if you take 1 mk2 1600 driver add a dash of piper cam and a small pinch of weber carb it comes out at a lovely
20-25mpg maybe 30 on motorways
-
1.3 c 3 dr version
 i hope its not much, im broke as it is, aah well, im a student, i guess i can skip erm... food for a week or something, as long as i get to drive the beauty
-
I don't know what mpg I'm getting but I can get about 320-330 on a full tank in sensible driving mode (55 litres) and that's not running it too far into the reserve tank.
It's a 1.6 engine so you could probably expect about the same maybe 350 depending on the condition of the engine!
-
55 litres and 350miles a tank - crikey !!
I've only just got my new valver and it's probably running rich with the ignition timing setup wrong.
I can only get 40 - 45 litres in her running well in to the red - that only lasts 200 - 250 miles, but that's with a few squirts ofcourse ;)
Usually a GTI driving sensibly should do around 300 to a tank I've seen from previous threads.
According to the MFA I'm getting 20 - 25 mpg average though ... so 12 gallon tank (40/45 litres) should be around 240 miles upwards.
Does anyone know the size of a valver tank ??
-
All fuel tanks are 55 litres.
aren't they??
-
I've managed 52 litres in my 8v GTI and usually get 320 to 340 miles, and that is not thrashing it or going over 80pmh on motorway (been testing how economical I can get it recently).
-
my valver tank is only 45 unless there is another 10 litres hidden after it coughs and splutters onto the forecourt on payday morning last month :D :D I got 46 litres in and they say the filler neck takes 1-2 litres so i reckon it's a 45 litre tank that is strange mines plastic though are all golf tanks plastic?
MPG don't know mfa buggad and between 200-300 miles to a tank depends how i drive it :d
-
Maybe Monza Blue 16v's where 'special'
-
about 35mpg from the 1300 I would estimate.
-
my 16v knocks out 35mpg and average of 33.6 over 900 miles. My 8 v can see best side of 43 constant on a run. Valver tank is 45 on mine and plastic 47 up in the neck
-
i see around 46 on a long journey and 19 around town, all mk2's tanks are 55 litres you have a reserve in there from empty mine will take about 58
-
there is, once u take it to the w white ,line on the wrong side of red you've got about 30 or so miles, tried and tested, lol, its so depressing when you fill up with a tenner and its still in the red
-
lol its even worse when you put 20 in and its only a 1/4 lol which lasts about 20 miles before is drops to above red :S
-
im getting roughly 32ish mpg on my 91 gti 8v- and i get 70 miles out of a tenner before having to fill up cos its in the red- i dont thash it and that just with normal urban driving- is that ok?
-
cool, yeah, i just wanted to know coz im dead broke, but can't stop driving the car and wanted to know how to budget my cash so i got money for petrol,
-
when i had the 8v gearbox on my 16v I used to get around 440 miles to a tank doing motorway journeys, less than 300 around town though. Now ive got a 16v box im getting 350 max! doh!
though its more fun and i have a bigger smile so well worth it....! and some guy in a smart car tried gunning it from the traffic lights the other day...what a knob. that made me smile to
-
my mate reckons he's got around 400 miles out of a tank on an 8 valve and i didn't believe him but if others are as well?! thats motorway cruising for a few hours for him.
at the moment i'm lucky if i get 250 out of a tank. damn these modifications!!! (mind you a g60 couldn't get away from me the other day ;) )
-
i did 390 miles yesterday into norwich and yarmouth from london when i got home i stopped about 5 minutes from my house to fill up as it was just on the red and the fecker took 39 litres so i still had 16 in there :S reckon i could do maybe close to 450 if the dam gauge was abit more accurate.
-
i get about 220 miles on a tank (£46 quids worth of optimax) from my 16v
though i doubt its set-up right, seems expensive to me!
And what is it with every Vw ive ever driven from 82 mk1 gti to 2001 seat leon cupra that the fuel guage stays on full for ages then drops suddenly to half, stays for a bit then sudden drop to the red bit, which then lasts for ages until you get scared and fill up.
:undecided:
-
my 85' 1.3 is runnin a pitiful 22mpg not even with hard driving, need a new engine or lottery win.
-
i dunno baron but its not just vw's etc i got a vectra aswell and it tells me in litres whats left but the way the gauge is i think its almot empty and find out its just under half full its got like 5 lines after the red and halfway marker is on 40litres max being 60 :S

does anyone with a mk2 notice that when you fill all the way to the brim, the 1st bit seems to take ages to move, then flies to the middle, takes a while then flies down to red
also going round left hand bends gives your more fuel, and the opposite for right hand ones lol
-
used to get 350 on a full tank with my 8v.... had a mk3 box on it too tho
-
Trouble is running it right into the red, all the shi* from the bottom of the tank gets sucked into the engine!
But my car always seems to be in the red, I haven't been paid for six weeks so I'm putting a fivers worth of the standard unleaded in every three days.
I love going uphill too, always seem to gain another 1/8th of a tank!
