Title: diagnostic scanner won't connect to my mk4

hi I have just bought a scanner of ebay tried it on my car and it won't pick my car up it works fine on my bmw 1 series and my mates car but not mine wtf,anyone had this problem

there isn't one in there but looks like it has has a sound system in there at some point as there is wires all over

Wont work without the k line hooked up

You need to refit a standard headunit

so I need to fit a radio in to scan my car why will it not scan without a radio and what is a k line please

K line is the diagnostic line for the MK4; its prior to the CANBUS system in your 1 series

It runs through the stereo. If its not connected it stops the diagnostics working.
