Title: Window mech repair kit.
Post by: Dan n Nic on 13 December 2013, 13:16
Anyone know if you can get the repair kit anywhere other than the dealers as they are now quoting over £60 for one when i bought it for £34 + vat last time? Think you can get the whole panel for about £80 from euros...

Yeah, i'll have a look. The last time it happened i had to replace the whole lot, clips & cables as i ended up with a birds nest in the door. Not looking forward to doing it either as last time my mate who worked for an auto glaziers helped, but he's not about any more.

Is it the same for a 2 or 4 door, or are they different?

No they are different due to the cable lengths

You can get the 5 door repair kit from euros for 35quid still. I did mine in the summer you need to drill out the standard rivets and then bolt the new one in.

Bought one this morning for £34, it's not the repair kit it's the whole panel (the repair kit is just the cables & clips etc & was easy to fit) so not looking forward to fitting this TBH.

I hope so. I think I used a guide from here before to get the door card off, and that was the biggest ballache.
The biggest pain for me is that I just don't have the tools. Is the panel riveted or bolted?

Panel is bolted and a piece of p!ss to change.

Does the new panel have metal clips opposed to plastic ones?

Metal and all the cable etc is already threaded too. Local dealer quoted over £60 for just the repair kit, Euro's are selling the panel for the same price, but I managed to get it for £34.

Door cards are easy. 3 torx screws at the bottom, hidden screw on the inside edge near the door mirror. Drivers - pop the inner handle off then pull the window switch/handle off revealing 3 screws. Passenger - pull the handle off revealing 1 screw. Pop door card off from the bottom, unhook from the inner window rubber, unhook the door trigger cable and all electrical connections. Done

Is the inner panel as easy as, luckily, i saved the "how to" guide to my old laptop and to fet the panel off it says you have to remove the lick barrel & all sorts...?

nah you don't have to. There are 3 black plastic rivets that hold a bracket to the panel which then links with the door module. Just bang the middles out, push them through then pull the bracket off your door module. You don't need the bracket connected again, it just makes everything more of a pain in the arse. Just make sure you disconnect the plug to the module
