Hello,
Has anyone got these fitted in 225 35 19, your feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to need a pair on the front soon. Currently sold on the goodyears based on EVO tyre of the year and positive feedback from this site. If the extra price is justified in a superior performing tyre I will give them a go. If all I'm going to get is a softer compound that will wear fast and give a tiny performance gain, it will have to be the goodyears. I would like to get at least 12k from them.
Thanks

I have them on my Glendales, not done more than 50 miles tho so cant really say what they are like, although i had them on my previous ed30 in 235/35/19 on bbs ch, and if that was anything to go by they transformed it, so much more grip and steering composure, turned where you expected it to go if you get my meaning, absorbed the bumps better too, took away the vent creak.
I have also had them on the scales, glendale with 225/35 Dunlop was 21.8kg and a glen with same size SS is 21.2kg.
I have owned GY ASY2 on a previous ed30 and to be honest imo they were decent mid range tyres, nothing outstanding if one didn't factor in the price, but for not alot of dough they are superb.
Hope this hasn't been too of a useless waffle...
P.s. another tyre to consider in Dunlop sport maxx RT, a customer of mine who races karts has them on his merc amg, rekons they are marvelous, best tyres he's owned.

Thanks GS,
The price isn't really a factor, I just don't want to be stuck with the wrong tyre for a couple of years. I like what you are saying about them so I think I will go for those. What was the wear rate on your ED30?
I have the Dunlops fitted now... They are ok :undecided: maybe as the fronts are nearly shot it is not fair on them, find them noisy and maybe a bit firm in the tyre wall with the 35 profile, I like your comment on absorbing the bumps better
I will see if there are any further views, thanks for your input.

I'm running GY ASY on all corners with Glendales and have read the Michelin PSS is well rated. Will need to change my fronts in the next month or two.
Just looked on Black Circles, are they going to be £40 a corner better than the Goodyears? Also whats the Rim protection like?
Thanks

Wear wise on ed30, i cant really put down a fair comment ,not done enough miles, measured 8mm middle and 7 mm on edges when new and still measure that, without looking i would guess less than 1000 miles.
Treadwear is listed as 300 compared to 240 on the S-Maxx GT's.

A bit of shopping around could probably reduce the gap to alot less than £40,arguments for amd against, depends on what one values in a tyre, bit like is the R better than a GTI debate, if it was my money i would say worth every penny extra.
Rim protection is the only negative on glen's, fine on CH's but dont go near a kerb with Glendales, when i get in i will put a piccy up.

Not the easiest to photo, look more or less protection, depends on the angle of camera
I think the second pic is the best representation.

Looks like less overlap than the GY AS2.
-
Thanks for the pics, the protection looks about the same as the Dunlops coming off.

I have the Dunlop's still on the fronts, RP def bigger on Dunlop i would say, however the SS is closer to the rim, so will probably offer better protection from the road marks ( pot holes, loose impediment turning etc)as opposed to actual parking kerb damage, which to be realistic, unless its an inch wide solid rubber band wont save the wheel anyway.

Finally got 2 new Michelin pilot super sport fitted today. They were on the front wheels that have been swapped with the rears. The part worn Dunlops are going to finish their life on the front and then I will have Super Sports in all the corners.
The guy fitting them raved about them for life and grip, didn't realise those 2 could go hand in hand. Also got a £50 fuel voucher available till the end of April. Made the total price more bearable !
As quoted in previous posts the rim protection is minimal.

Conti 5's don't offer much rim protection either. How are your Glendales faring? Have you managed to avoid kerbing them? Mine need refurbing :embarrassed:

So far so good, Ive had a couple of lucky escapes though. I hope i'm not tempting fate...
My car is garaged and I can commute in my wifes Smart 4 days of the week as she is on the train. At work we have a private multi level car park. Amazing thing, all of the enthusiasts or just nice cars park further up the car park on the less packed floors. There seems to be a policy of leaving a empty space between cars to prevent door banging further up, it's kind of weird like a unwritten rule.
My tyre man also does refurb for £60 per wheel. I will trust him that it would be a good job. I would pay extra for him to fit tyres to my rims as he knows the value of nice cars and rims. I never have to worry on that issue.
I think the mild winter helped on the wheels as there didn't seem to be too much salt constantly on the road. He is going to look out for a set of tidy 18s for me from VW or Audi. Stick some winter tyres on and save the Glendale / Michelins for the good times.

My work has a dedicated car park too but the majority don't give a toss about other's (or their own) cars. They park so close and think nothing of slamming their door into the adjacent car. The only saving grace is the car park is on a hill and since most people are too lazy to walk all the way to the top, the upper part tends to be emptier and that's where I park.
You're lucky to have a trusted tyre man.

Goodyear eagle f1's have great rim protection

Yeah, I got that from previous posts, but I'd rather purchase a quality tyre on more than rim protection, I see grip dry and wet more important.
I did consider the Goodyear very closely but I chose the michelin in the end. Plus they were cheaper, no brainer in the end.
