Title: Folding mirrors
Post by: matt2 on 10 December 2013, 13:47
I was looking through the thread on sound actuator and revenge was made to the actuator being dropped for post build week 45 on UK cars.

There was also a reference to foldable mirrors and iPod cables and the build week.

Are the mirrors folding on lock/unlock being changed? Are they in their way in our out?

The folding mirrors now work via the remote unlock/lock key.
BW45 + cars are supposed to also come with the iPhone5 MDI cable although mine didnt...

Thanks. Prior to that build week, how did they operate?

On ignition on, the mirrors unfolded iirc.

So, rather than unlock on turning the ignition on/off it now does it on lock/unlock?

Prior to BW45 the mirrors unfolded on ignition and folded on lock.  Since BW45 the mirrors now unfold on unlock and fold on lock which makes a bit more sense if you ask me.

One less thing for me to vagcom  then lol.

The handbook for cars built pre BW45 (well based on mine anyway) states that the "puddle" lights operate when you unlock the car remotely; however they don't because the mirrors don't fold out when you unlock.  So IMO to comply with their own handbook VW will need to install a fix for their pre BW45 cars...

And what would be the point of the puddle lights coming on once your sat in the car with the ignition on... you'll already have wet feet...

Please remember that common sense is not all that common. ;-)

VW are trying, sorry, I mean that they are trying hard.

Would have been far better if VW had built the puddle lights into the mirror bases (as they don't rotate), then they could have switched on no matter what position the mirror was in.

Has anyone been advised whether coding can be done by dealers for pre-BW45 owners?

JM - I would think it very unlikely a dealer would agree to or be able to get involved in coding, for what is in effect a mod, unless sactioned by VW. This, if its a software only mod, is going to be a private VCDS thing.

This will really annoy me..

Oh well..looks like I'll have to go out and get a VCDS now

Did I notice you are picking yours up from Bedford?

If so, I am pretty local and have a VCDS cable you can come and use if you like.

I would do some reserach and practice with minor tweaks first - making code alterations is not the first thing you want to be doing when using VCDS for the first time!

That would be brilliant..might need to collate a few tweaks from the thread in Mk7 root..

I will of course stick to tried and tested mods; I'm an automation engineer so certainly not afraid of getting my hands dirty with coding.

Really hoping someone uncovers the coding for retro fitting rear camera!

Should only be a few days now til GTD!

No Problem,

Drop me a message when you want to try it out :)

Mine was built 11-11-13.... Collecting on Xmas eve...dealersh!t said iPhone 4 cable , vwuk told me iphone4 as the 5 has not been developed yet , let alone released...I have iPhone 4...what can I expect my car to be??folding mirrors on lock??

The changes to mirrors and new lightning iPhobe MDI cable were from BW45.  If your car was BW45 or above I would expect the changes.

Mine's fold on lock... Build week 45...

Can't comment on the cable as I have no MDI due to advanced phone prep...

They all fold on lock.  The change was on unfold.  Pre BW45 it is on ignition.  From BW45 it meant to be on unlock...

OK then mine unfold on unlock...

as mine has not got phone prep...should I be getting a blue coller lead, also a usb lead and mdi lead, collecting car tomorrow so I dont want to be short changed..if that makes sense.

Post by: mcmaddy on 23 December 2013, 15:22
you'll get 1ipod lead and that's it. unless you went for nav pro you'll get a blue collar lead but I'm sure that's changed now on bw45+ cars.

Hi,

you should get the following depending on your spec/BW:-

Pre-BW45 = Blue Collar
Pre-BW45 with Navigation = Red Collar
Post-BW45 = Green Collar
