Title: Mudflaps
Post by: iainmac on 09 December 2013, 21:37
Hi there folks.  Just wondering if anyone has heard when mudflaps will be available for the GTD?

Unknown when but I got these foc with my Gti and the dealer has given me an iou, basically the part numbers exist but aren't available for ordering just yet, so at least they are working on it

I was thinking of ordering. Unfortunately, by the time they arrive winter will probably be over

I want a set of Mudflaps for my GTD - this is the 1st ever car I've taken delivery of without any and I'm not happy with the situation.  My dealer keeps looking on the parts list, but is sceptical whether or not VW will even produce any.  I read somewhere that VW Customer Services had said that there will be no Mk7 GTD/GTI mudflaps!

Being out in a farming area they really do help keep the mud off the roads at bay!

My next question is has anybody modified a set to fit the Mk7 and if so are there any photos of this?

1 Set Mudflaps (Left and Right) - Rear - GTI/GTD   - 5GV 075 105
1 Set Mudflaps (Left and Right) - Front- GTI/GTD   - 5GV 075 116

These part numbers are correct and do exist on their system, they are making them, just have no release date as of yet.

In that case can we petition VW to bring the release date forward - after all winter is not far away!

Are we not in winter already?

I had them specced on my car.  A few days before collection I got a call saying the mud flaps can only be fitted on the front and they are not compatible with the back.  I just decided to leave them.

Has anyone managed to get mudflaps yet for the Gti or GTD?

I emailed VWpartsdirect with the part numbers I got from here, they then asked for my chassis number. Said they could get mudflaps for my GTD, he said the standard Golf ones he had on his site would fit and there was a specific one for the rear of the GTD.

Is he talking rubbish?

VW have obviously banned mudflaps for the GTI and rightly so.

I don't understand where there are no specific GTI/GTD mudflaps available for the Mk7 - this has never been the case with previous models - why none available VW?

They did the same with the MkV GTI, car was out a while and mudflaps followed on quite a bit later. There seems to be part numbers for the GTi/D now listed but some on here reported they are not yet available. THe VWPartsDirect guy seems to be saying he can get them but also says the fronts are just the same as the standard car which seems unlikely to me.

They couldn't possibly be the same because the side skirt (not present on lesser Golfs) would be in the way.

Just phoned local dealer - £102 for the full set or £172 fitted fricking hell!

Anyone know how hard they are to fit?

You've got a screwdriver right?

Come on man, who needs a dealer to fit mudflaps - what can go wrong??

It'll be 10mm bolts at the worst.

Going on earlier incarnations (I put my dad’s on his MK5, and wheel arches haven't really changed much ), it’s about 15-20 mins per corner if you have the tools not to need to take the wheels off. Officially you don’t have the clearance without the wheels off, but with some inventive use of tools (Torx screwdriver bit in the appropriate socket on a very small 3/8” socket set ratchet bar) and a slightly scuffed back of the hand it is possible. It is slow and slightly frustrating due to the lack of clearance, but it just about makes it worthwhile not taking the wheels off.

It'll take 5 mins per corner with the wheels off

There are around 3 torx screws that self-tap into the polythene lining of the wheel arch and one fixes to the underside of the car to stop it flapping about. Easy job for the competent DIYer.

A nice opportunity to get the winter crap off the hard to reach areas on the wheels then!

Post by: peterdoherty on 12 March 2014, 13:38
Jut got them to look at the instructions with them - wheels need to be removed, 1 hole needs to be drilled inside the wheel arch and one in the bottom of the skirt apparently.... there are 2 screws on each which don't need holes drilled apparently, the rest do.
No way it would be drilled without removing the wheels unfortunately.

I've no proper jack or axle stands so may look into investing in some
