Title: Looks like a few lowering spring options are on the way!!
Post by: Gnasher on 09 December 2013, 18:01
As per the title, looks like there's more stuff coming our way!!

Might plump for the 35mm set myself.

Hmmm 45mm sounds tempting. Wonder at what price point these will come in at? Anyone had these type of springs before?

still rather have the VWR ones, at least they acknowledge the existance of ACC in their description. There are loads of H&R reviews knocking around, usually considered to be on par or slightly worse than Eibach, have a google

Although my other alternative is to wait for the Eibach sportline springs (had them on the VXR and was pleased with them)

IMO the Eibach pro kit doesn't lower the car enough to please my eyes!

which ones are those again?

I have been looking in etka: The exact same part number for springs are used in ACC cars and non-ACC cars so it must not make a difference.

You buy what you like but when I see the words 'Not for cars with suspension levelling control or four wheel drive' I start to be a little cautious in what I am buying.

But ACC does not change the suspension level?

do the dampers not change the level of travel in the springs?

And why are there two part numbers for the same springs if it makes no difference?

OK ive done some reading and decided my response now is 'feck knows', but im just more comfortable with a spring that states specifically that it works with ACC, like the vwr ones

Suspension Levelling Control is not ACC. That is the system in some cars, usually estates that can raise the rear suspension when carrying heavy loads to level the car.

That remark is on all the kits on eibach's website. It even says it for the ED30 and there was no ACC back then.

The -04-22 kit is for the beam rear axel which is the lower powered mk7's. The only kit listed for the GTI on eibach's own website is the -02-22

My only concern would be the front axle weight. For older GTI's, eibach do 2 versions of each kit. One is for a higher front axle load. My guess is that means DSG cars.

My car will have a high front axle weight due to the DSG and PP. I wonder if Eibach will make a second version for these mk7's or will one kit now do all specs of GTI?

ahh i see, ok well that makes more sense then. In relation to the weight question, does the current DSG box weigh the same as it did on the older mks? Maybe the difference isnt as bad anymore and therefore doesnt require two different springs

Ok so I had a look at the GTI axle weights:

DSG adds 20kg just to the front axle
PP adds 30kg as 20kg to the front and 10kg to the back

So max axle load for a PP DSG (heaviest configuration) is:
Front: 1040kg
Rear: 880kg

That's under the max load for the eibachs which is:
Front: 1070kg
Rear: 1000kg

I'd say you're right Graham, it looks like one spring set for all versions of GTI.

wow I didnt realise it would add such weight, i take it thats the ediff?

I'd say most of it is the bigger brakes. The 10kg extra on the back can only be the rear brakes so I'd assume a similar increase for the front brakes.

Ive always been curious about the brakes, can you see the sizes on etka? I didnt realise the PP beefed up the backs as well

The Golf GTi Performance Pack has the same brake setup like the Golf R ;)

340mm front and 310mm rear, both vented. I fitted 345mm mk6 R brakes to my ED30 and I could not get over how much heavier they were than the standard 312mm GTI front brakes.

Ok looks like eibach do a sportline but no body is advertising it for some reason, just ordered a set from shark for the new year!
