Hi All,
Does anyone else have dodgy looking blobs of mastic and paintwork in their rear wheel arches at the bottom, near where the skirts are. Mine looks like its been finished off by Ray Charles, so im going back in this dinner time. Just curious if i am the only one.
Cheers,
Graham

Mine is ok, will need to get yours checked out by Volkswagen.
I must admit that newer Golf's are nothing like my MK4 when it comes to quality. :embarrassed:

looks like the paint over ran down the panel

This is seam sealer/ anti chip coating that is applied on the car prior to primer and top coat. If you look above the lower side skirt you will see that the paint is very textured. It is normally applied by robot, and have some masking on the wheel arch to prevent overspray up the doors/rear quarter/wings. It looks like when they have removed the masking tape, they have touched the wet stone chip (note the drip going upwards, not downwards.. :nerd: This should have been picked up on the inspection decks. It is an easy repair, cut off excess using a knife, then touch up (as long as they dont cut so far down to the bare metal, you will be fine).
(Speaking with 15 years Automotive Paint Shop experience for Aston Martin, Jaguar & Land Rover...)

Well just took it in and that's what the dealer did, fair enough if it's normal but I had a look at a passat whilst waiting and they have a plastic trim to hide it, so I'll chalk it down to weight saving lol

Your forgetting that its both weight & cost saving.... if Volkswagen can reduce cost and increase profit they will do so.
I just looked at my MK4 again, the paint finish and edges are flawless

Sad isn't it. I find this with my leon (basically a mk4) The little mechanical, detail, finish and body details The 5, 6 and also 7 just dont seem to have the fit and finish of the earlier cars. Its like they spent all the money on the touchy feely dash interior and forget the basics.
