Title: No START!!
Post by: Dustin1987GTI on 08 December 2013, 18:46
Hell everyone,
I am new to this forum and also new to VWs. I recently purchased a 1987 GTI 16v Wolfsburg edition from a friend that had been sitting for a few years. after a few tests i came to realize that both fuel pumps were bad. so i got both new fuel pumps and it fires now, but only runs for a few seconds. From what i have read it is only running off the cold start valves fuel mist that it is spraying for the first few siconds. i have checked fuel at the injectors and it is minimal. With the #1 fuel injector line removed from the block at the intake, i had the wife try to start the engine while holding the throttle wide open, it fired (off the cold start mist, is my guess) and there was minimal fuel coming from the port on the fuel block. Any ideas on what i can do to get this thing going. i am out of ideas.
Thanks for reading, any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ideally youd want to test the fuel pressure.

The fuel pressure is great. is there maybe something inside the fuel block there at the intake that could be clogged. i know there is some old fuel in the tank, but i have put new fuel in on top of that thinkin maybe that it would help. do you think that the old fuel could be the issue?

Did you change fuel filter? Also, make sure plunger on metering head on airbox is operating freely

they seem to be quite troublesome the old k jet system when they been lying for a while. have you pulled the injectors then cranked ignition to check for fuel spray?

got a new fuel filter, havent changed it yet. gonna try that tmrw after work. gettin bad weather right now and its outside. also i went to try it again a lil bit ago and i got it to fire and when i held it WOT it did pick up a little but missing real bad like it wasnt firing on all cylinders. i think im fighting and sh!tty fuel problem at this point. i think tmrw ill change the fuel filter and add some more good gas to the tank and we shall see!!!
Thanks to everyones ideas, i will let you know how it goes tmrw.
Again, thanks
