Thanks guys....

I will be changing them for Philips Bluevision when the time comes...

Its difficult to know which ones will be a reasonable match to the xenons....guess ill have to try some out and hope they are ok...
Thanks

You will never match the Xenons or LED for colour unless you want to reduce output a lot. Some of the bluer bulbs have quite a blue tint about them (more like a blue set of shades than a truly blue/white light output), really cuts back on the output though compared to the Osram nightbreaker series or Philips Extreme visons. Nightbreaker plus can be had quite cheap through one of the Amazon affiliate sellers or Eurocarparts, they are noticeably whiter than stock bulbs, but don't come that close to Xenons. For how long they're on for and output, Nightbreakers are fine.

I bought a set of these ready for when my car arrives
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0047N0B0U/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Needed a new set of bulbs for my mum's polo so got 2 sets. Can take a pic of the polo's headlights if you want so you get an idea? As though for amount of time they are on night breakers are a good price.
Other than that you could look into LED ones but not sure how good they will be or if they do error free coded ones.

Just got my second dead bulb on the driver's side in less than 2 months. First time I changed it at the dealer's about a month ago and now the Phillips bulb they installed burned out. I really don't want to go back again so I got my own H7s with a whiter/blueish light and whenever I connect them, they work for about 5 seconds then I get an AFS error 30 seconds later.
Is there a way to reset the message without using VCDS? Do they need to be placed inside the cornering light casing for it to stop reading the error? Because when I installed them, I just left the bulbs hanging to make sure they work.
Any suggestions?

I had the same issue when the car was new in that I replaced the standard halogen bulbs (as supplied by VW), with higher quality Osram Nightbreakers, but they only lasted a few months before I got the Cornering Light error in the dash and found out one of them had blown. Replaced it, and the second set only lasted about 6 months before one of them blew as well. Now back on the standard crappy VW ones and they have lasted a year or so with no problem.
I would still like to change them but would like to know why the others keep failing when the cheap VW ones don't, and which units have been working for a long time without issues ?

It could well be that the VW ones are spec'ed for the job of a cornering light... those things are being hit quite hard in that they are coming on and off much more regularly than say a sidelight or a fog light and bulbs are most stressed with the heat up and cool down part rather than the run part.
That could well be it...

Have you looked at the expected lifespan on the box?
I bought my kids uprated bulbs from EuroCarParts not sure which ones but possibly the Phillips. I was shocked to see the lifespan in hundreds of hours rather than thousands!!

I use MTEC 12v 55w Cosmos Blue and they still put out light as good as the originals.

My Osram Nightbreaker plus are still going strong in my 21 month old GTD (put them in not long after getting the car). I could take them out to put in my R but I guarantee one will pop within a week of getting refitted into the R so i'll leave them in and get some new ones.
