Hey guys,

Before you flame me.... Yes Ive done searches. Now onto the matter at hand.  :whistle:

Ive been looking into exhaust upgrades for some time now and anyone that knows me know I research for months before I spend money.  :rolleyes:

My issue is, When I do my upgrade I want the following...

* Turbo back.
* Sports cat.
* Single anni style exit.

Now, I have been looking into 3" downpipes vs 2.5" downpipes and so far my research has told me, that going 3" can mess with back pressure.

Now Im not going to be going higher than 200-220 bhp why? because anything more and i'll look into Ko4 and tbh I dont see me going for that much power.

De-cat for me is a big no no, mainly because I don't want to find a "friendly" MOT tester or even chance in anyway that my insurance would become invalid because I did.
And was found out if I have an accident, as I have declared every single mod right down to my Audi r8 oil cap and Porsche 911 coolant cap.

Also for the past couple of weeks I have been looking at different brands I.E miltek etc etc.
I haven't found 1 decent video of an unmapped, 1.8t with a 2.5" turboback miltek and sports cat its doing my head in.

What I want from this upgrade is a nice but not chavvy burble on idel, I don't want a loud noise but I do want a nice growl/rally type sound when i really give it the beans.

I have also fond out that upgrading to a turbo back also help with the turbo spooling up faster but unsure if this is only on 3" downpipes? I have been told I shouldn't got to 3" unless im looking on using a K04. Also something about 3" hitting something and causing a rattle?

I suppose what im after is for you guys to help me choose a brand.. I found this on you tube and to be honest this is the closest to what I want that I can find however I have not found any 42 Drift design outlets?  :undecided: Am I correct to think that 42DD is known as Magnaflow???

I honestly cannot remember where i read it been on sooooo many websites, just remember read that back pressure is bad and 3" can cause issues if running stock map and something about a 3" knocking or rattling on something.

As for the setup you posted funny enough I am watching these on eba and GTI_James is running that catback system but im yet to get decent video of how is sounds...

I'm running a milltek cat back as well, but I'm not running a standard map and I've got a 3" dp with decat so a video of mine would be useless!

You want a little bit of back pressure which your sports cat will provide anyway. 3" won't hit anything provided it's been made right.

I'm the same as Dom so vids of mine would be useless too

Loads guys have a 2.5" catback and 3" downpipes.. i had that set up on my gti for 3 years with a ebay toyosports decat and it was awesome..rev range was nice and smooth..defo felt like it freed up the back pressure  :smiley:

It's not really a bottle neck really, after your down pipe all your exhaust is there for is to quieten it and cool the gases before they come out the end.

So the 2.5" part doesn't really matter :wink:

3" wouldn't cause back pressure, you're probably closer to losing all back pressure with one I'd say

Just popped down to "Prospeed" and had a good old chat with them, I had my mk3 done there and wasn't overly first impressed but they did sort the problem I had in all fairness.

Anyway with your advise and his I have decided to use a 3" down pipe into a 2.5" exit.

He said that he just did a 1.8t 20v on a beetle and it sounds amazing and has invited me to pop down in Jan to take a look at it when it comes back in for more work.

He has also offered to supply all piping and fit my FMIC for £220.

Anyway he said he will work with me to get the exact note I want from my setup and do 3" downpipe with a branded sports cat 200 cell into a 4" anni rear style exit for £750.

After pricing up the setup I want from ebay with the miltek it comes just shy of £610 and thats before paying someone to fit it.

So £750 for a custom setup with a lifetime garantee in my eyes is a good idea. What you think guys?

paid less for my set up but did not have a sports cat fitted but has r32 style rear  :smiley:
