Title: LED number plate lights
Post by: dubber36 on 05 December 2013, 11:07
Are they plug and play?

I've got genuine LED rear lights, coded and no warning lights. I assume that's turned off the bulb monitering? So will OEM number plate lights be a straight swap?

Also interested to know this.  I have factory fitted led rears.   Interior lights all swapped so this is next on my list.

Dubber - do you know what led type they take, size etc?

I wasn't going of fit replacement bulbs, instead fit the complete light units.

I fitted some when I got the car back in 2011.If you get the ones that come with a canbus you don't get any warning messages. Not had any problems with them thus far.
They are plug and play replacements and the canbus bit tucks away nicely into the bumper

Ah, I see.  Why do you want complete light units?

Does anyone know if fitting error free canbus LED plate lights will avoid triggering bulb warnings?

I have fitted the canbus bulbs to my Touran and have not had any bulb warnings, went for the complete units for the Golf and has been said the resisters sit nicely within the bumper.

I thought the 35 already had LED number plate lights? I thought they started fitting them to later mk6's.

@Dubber, Kufatec do the resistors but not cheap! No idea if you'd get the error or not.

I've seen those James. £24 from memory. However as my car is now coded for your old rear LEDs, perhaps they are not necessary.

Jimble, thank god you're on the ball.
To my utter embarrassment, it turns out my car does have LED number plate lights :embarrassed:
In my defence, I never see it lit up at night as I'm always driving it   (btw it's not a 35)

OEM OCDness

Say no more

I bought some after market units and one blew a few weeks back

I've just ordered two OEM ones from my local dealer - will be here Saturday.

If they show a bulb out, I have some resistors I bought from carsystems.pl that I can plug in in-line

Oem ones in earlier cars will eventually trigger a bulb error.  You also cannot turn this off in vagcom vcds sadly even though heres ab option for monitoring. There was a software change on cars with the leds from the factory.
