Anyone got any advice?
My girlfriends car seems to have an issue,
When driving and coming up to a junction, she'll be slowing down and rolls to the give way markings. Then when she wants to pull off again the car reacts slow (almost like you're in a manuel and you accidently try pulling off in 3rd) then all of a sudden the car will kick back down the gears fine and start to pull off alright.
Thats the best I can describe it really.
Any ideas?
thanks!

I had this. try topping up gearbox oil. either it is leaking or simply needs toping up. It may need a gearbox filter and oil change and you can do this yourself if this has never been done. vw say some are lifetime but they expect you to drive a car for 100000miles and less than10 years. does your gearbox have a dipstick??make sure you use the right gearbox oil. don't overfill it.

Arh right thanks I had a supsusion it could be that, I'm not sure about the dip still ill have to take a look.
Funnily enough this has just started to happen with the car on 102,000 on th clock.

good luck and i hope you do have a dipstick as that will make life very easy for you...just top up and see if it makes any difference...

Anyone with any other suggestions, the girlfriend took it to a garage and they checked the car over apparently and couldn't find anything wrong?
-
I would get the oil drained and replaced plus the suction filter cleaned.

The VW dealer told me that the gearbox never has to be serviced as it is "lifetime"..I then asked if the oil in it was a special blend that doesn't break down after 20 years of use and then the line went silent and after I heard that it would cost £120 to have the gearbox oil and filter changed....so if the dealer didn't open the box and look inside then you had better do it yourself..:)

If by some bad luck your gearbox is at fault, I will soon have a perfectly working auto box available for beer tokens as I'm swapping to manual :)
-
Hi which box do you have available?
-
Not sure, how can I find out?
I scanned the car, and found these fault codes:
00520 mass air flow sensor
00523 air intake sensor
00533 idle air control regulation
00525 oxygen sensor
I got a feeling these wont be helping?
Anyone know what course of action I should take first?
I know the throttle body needs cleaning for 00533
but for the others I'm not so sure?
Thanks

all these errors have to do with fuel air mixture.... unlikely for MAF, lamda and throttle to have all gone wrong. more likely just one of them.
are you running a sport air filter?
could just be bad MAF - unplug and see if that helps. if it still runs sluggish more likely something else is at fault.
would need to read measuring blocks from ECU (not just fault codes), with that you could check if sensors are actually reading anything sensible back...
