Scan for fault codes, the maf can sometimes turn the traction control light on if it's faulty.

+1 My light stayed on when I unplugged my MAF.
-
I had the same problem when I bought my 180. Replaced the MAF and that sorted it
-
how much are they for a 1.4 16v?
-
Mine cost 100 quid but you get 30 back if you take them your one, or as close as makes no difference to them numbers anyway. Might be different for your model but it does exactly the same job so I can't see it being too different.
-
nice one for that just trying to find out where it is on the car sorry bit of a newbie.......
-
On the 1.8t it's attached to the airbox, I'm assuming it's the same on the 1.4 but couldn't tell you for certain
-
no worries ill have alook around there and see what i can find thank you for the help
-
last time I was in vw prices ranged from £80 to around £150 for a MAF dependant upon the part number. don't see why there all pretty much the same bloody thing. robbing bast.....
-
been told if i take it out and give it a good clean it will sort it self out and if i take the car battery out for 10mins as well......
-
Can't hurt to try. Getting it off isn't hard
-
Had a look around the airflow box cant seem to find the maf there has anyone got a pic of it please
-
its the part that goes into the air box.
where the airbox has a big pipe coming out going to the engine, the first bit of that that joins onto the air box is the MAF. should have a plug on it.

Scan it first before spending any money mate. I have exact same issue on my 4mo. And i have these fault codes
