Watched new top gear dvd last night, & was surprised to See jeremy clarkson testing the new gti out, with richard hammond In the new fiesta st, jeremy Was giving the car a lot of praise especially the new diff while throwing it around hair pins, but then mentioned That the car had 220 bhp, which means the standard dIff is truly amazing Or he was in the pp gti & didn't know.

same power to weight ratio as a fiesta st
Yes but let's face it. It destroys the Fiesta ST in every possible way.

wonder if the lap time round a track would say the same

I watched it on the phone but I'm nearly 100% I saw PP brakes on the GTI.
-
Yes it was definitely the pp version - I saw the gti logos on the calipers. Nice to hear it being called the best all rounder. That's what I'm sure we have all got it for

It could beat the GTI by 10 seconds around a track, but I still wouldn't buy the Fiesta

Very true - except that has never/won't ever happen - and believe me, over the years, there's been plenty of triers!

You shouldn't laugh... the new Fiesta ST is a fine car, for the money... fantastic handling, quick enough... I had one for a couple of days and covers ground very quickly. The ride was very stiff though... I'm sure I would have loved it when I was in my 20s
Would it beat a Golf GTI round a track... I don't know but it would be close... even if Matchboy was driving the Golf
What you have to remember though is that it is the best part of £10,000 less than a Golf GTI so you might not expect it to be as nice but you should also not expect that a Golf GTI even with a PP will be streets ahead on performance or handling... The Mountune upgrade is only £600 for (+15bhp)

I'm sure it is a great car for the money, not denying that! And if I was 20 then I'd want one. But I'm not, which is why I said I wouldn't buy one now  As for the track driving comment, I'm not professing to be a Lewis Hamilton, I was referring more to normal road driving on UK roads. Drivers of Fiesta ST's tend to be younger ie. far less experienced, which is why I've never been "beaten" by any of them trying it on. Nice little car though if you're a young lad, and good value for money.

That's right all the way. On the road the only factor of the speed a car can carry is the driver. Many GTI's and Audis and BMWs were humiliated by a Peugeot or even a Saxo 1.4 VTS I owned years ago because their drivers where young (or didn't know what apex means) and of course I'm talking about driving in the twisties. A more experienced driver needs a fast car to avoid all those "wannabe racers" (by overtaking them)
