yeah mate, 15mm on the rears. 20mm would give too much poke with the Monza's I think. considering putting 5mm's on the front...

Hi,

Im kinda new to the world of tuning and looking at putting together a shopping list of things i plan to buy in the future (kinda researching best products for what i want)... Ive decided id like to buy coilovers instead of just springs (would like to improve the handling not just the looks). My question is why do people want more of a drop on the front then back is this just for looks or does improve the handling to have the back raised slightly?

Are you planning on doing track days? If Yes than coilovers are worth it. if not then you wont benefit from them. YOu would be best buying a decent springs and shocks, ie : H&R cup Kit or B12's....link below:

And Yes, low front equals a sexy stance.....

Sorry this is gonna be a proper noob question but whats the difference between changing the shocks & springs V coilovers... looking at the pics they look the same lol.

A re the track day as I now only live 55miles from Silverstone I would like to start going to some

Has anyone used the APR VWR springs they must be decent if VWR are putting their name to them?

For coilovers I was looking at these the fixed rating with the camber plates and linear springs

If you are going coilovers go for a two way adjustable set up, three ways are a bit over rated as you need to know what you are doing to adjust, two way means the damper/rebound set up is preset so you get the best off both worlds for road and track use

I'll disagree with Rocket my coilovers are a vast improvement on the road compared to our mk5 given the quality of the dampers, all be it might not give you the ultimate low stance

VWR springs are made by Eibach

There coilovers kit is AST dampers with Eibach springs, I really rate their 2 way set up, expensive but superb, only negative was the front damping is on the top mounts so you need to get under the scuttle panel to adjust

I went for Bilstein B16s as you can adjust easily enough as adjuster is on bottom so easy to adjust with car on ground

As you can tell I don't know that much about suspension set ups so changing the settings on the dampers and what not I wouldn't be using and so id be paying for things I wouldn't use, id prob take it to a tuning garage ask them to set it up for a fast road set up and leave it as that.

So because of that I was thinking for the VWR StreetSport Fixed Damper Coilover System, I can adjust the height to what I like best it will improve the handling. Is the camber plate worth the extra money total extra cost of £830 which is loads!

I couldn't find the b16's only the b14's

I have a preference for coilovers which you can adjust the damping/rebound as well as the height

I ran a previous incarnation of the VWR kit when it was made by KW (the newer AST stuff is way better) and whilst it was excellent it was always on the firm side

the bilstein B16 ps10 kit has 10 way adjustment on the dampers and on UK roads I run on 2, track would be about 8

Adjustable top mounts can allow you to run a bit of camber up to 3 degrees but fine line between cornering and compromising the straight ahead

I also would never ask suspension advice from the likes of Awesome as I always get the feeling the answer will differ depending what they have in stock and what has the biggest margin rather than the best performing kit

Perhaps because I am a little older, but I never really understand why someone wants to ruin the beautiful lines of a car like the GTI Mk 6, by lowering it, or putting a spoiler on it, or even a sun strip!

Understated is always better, than overstated.

I agree that something's are over the top like lowering to the point that half the rim is inside the arch it think looks silly but so the tyre fills the arch and doesn't have the huge gap at the top looks better

for me i like the gap between the top of the tyre and arch to be less than the thickness of the tyre, i also think you need to be careful running non OEM wheels

What's the drop with the b16's  I think looks pretty good any more then that and I think it would look to low tbh

Not sure but fronts on mine are on lowest setting which is about 5mm lower than the bottom pic
