Well guys, might be a Marmite thing, but the all white glow from the interior was getting a bit sterile, so thought I'd put back in the Red LED foot well light units I removed from the Scirocco, and now much prefer the ambient lighting at night.
Decided to photograph them properly so dug out the Nikon D3s and 24-70 F2.8 with the tripod and voilĂ = hope you like ?
Let me know what you think, good or bad

Oh yes on the Nav screen it's performing the November Nav Pro update

Have to say....I like it! Looks v cool! Still miss the red light that used to shine down on the gear stick!
-
Thant looks awesome :) - think i'd go for a cool blue or similar, but really good job :)
-
Very nice, much better I think! Is it tricky to do? What LED's do I need to get?
-
It's great you can do these things but it's not for me I'm afraid. It's just a bit to showy and in your face. The white is more classy IMO but as you say it's a marmite thing
-
Thanks guys, and Craig that's totally fine, would be a very boring world if we all liked the same things.
Two things though, a) the LED lights fitted actually were not very bright (compared to previous VW's) and b) what you are seeing is the full intensity (I.e actually being used a foot well lights), but I have them dimmed down to 50% when driving, and it just provides a nice warm glow.
-
Sorry Norbreck I'm with CraigW on this. Great photo's but I prefer the new blue/white interior LED's.
-
I like it Norbreck, bit of individuality never went amiss. Must compliment the photography as well
-
Looks like you have some serious footwarming tech going on down there .
I think a subtle blue glow would look great.
-
Just needs a small glitter ball hanging from the rear view mirror and you're good to go
-
Don't forget, digital cameras are very sensitive to the red channel, so it looks brighter in the photo than it actually is.
Going to run with them for a while and see what I think - but so far in the flesh I'm really liking them. If just takes away the sterility of the all white interior (GTI owners at least have red ambient lighting in the doors and kick plates).
Also got my next mod lined up:

A set of 4 active door warning lights. Just need to connect the positive to terminal 16 of the 32 pin connector in the door control modules and the negative to pin 5 of the 32 pin connector (but will mean door cards off, so I'll be doing this over the xmas holidays. Stay tuned.
Oh, and in case you are all wondering who this blithering idiot is - it's ME - Norbreck21a (my account was hacked or had a software glitch so until it's fixed, I'm posting under my alter ego )

Just removed the footwell light on my car and the "bulb" is a circuit board with a single LED in the middle.
Are you able to buy replacement red ones or do you need to replace the LED yourself? i.e. get the soldering iron out?
-
So the footwell lights are white LED as standard (as are the courtesy/map lights?

Nah, I still had some "standard" non led footwell lights from a project on my MK5 Golf many years ago, so dropped the red LED bulbs from the scirocco into them and whacked them in.

Thanks Jimble - no yellow glow then!

Ahh, makes sense, cheers. I think the red LED in the footwall would complete the interior of the GTI with the red strip on the door, need to source some mk6 holders!
-
Ok..... how about the strip above the glove compartment?
-
Odd question here, but should both the driver and passengers footwells be illuminated as standard? I checked and the light fitting is there but no cable connected to it.
I only noticed that only the passenger footwell has ever been lit in my car..

Oh dear, yes both sides should be lit

Ta for the confirmation.
Will take a photo of the orphaned light fitting before I pop down to the dealership.

No probs.... I must admit the GTi is such a nice place to be in at night, the red strips and ambient lighting is awesome.
-
Yep, have to agree on that. I didnt even realise when I ordered, was a very nice surprise

Have to agree. I love the interior at night. The lighting in the cabin is just brilliant. It's such a nice place to be. It's streets ahead of my old TT in terms of interior design
