Hi Guys
With so many of us reporting faults with our shock mounts I've lost track of the actual number of forum users who have experienced this issue. I though it would be good to create a poll to obtain a true perception for the size of the issue. Please place you vote.
The main issue is discussed here:

I won't vote until I know for sure, but it does sound like the exact same issue as you've had.

From this forum it appears to be a big problem. Mine were replaced last week. Do you know if VW have modified the part so the problem doesn't come back?
-
How about adding a poll about whether you had pucks left in. If the puckers are in the minority then it would seem that just having the pucks in for transport is wrecking the bearings.

Mine was both front mounts incl their separate bearings (driver's side was more noticeable) - no pucks left in.
I'd agree with MH - I reckon the pucks may well be a problem in transit.
Has anyone without lowered suspension had front mount issues? A master tech told me that no pucks are used with standard ride height...
Hopefully some help for the guys still waiting for their orders - so they can educate their dealers beforehand .

Poll updated as requested guys. I have reset the count so can you please resubmit you most applicable vote..

If that is the case (and I'm not saying, at this point, that it isn't) that would seem to be quite serious...
I must say though, that the transport pucks should not be causing this - many cars of all sorts of makes are shipped with these in place and suffer no issues - I know that my Honda old S2000 had them for transportation because there was a similar scandal on S2KI with some dealers forgetting to remove them at PDI.
The bearing works in a different plane to the springs. The bearing is there to support rotation of the strut without twisting the spring, the pucks are there to prevent/limit compression of the suspension in transit. You would expect that the pucks would be more gentle on the suspension than general driving i.e. the loads on the bearing would be much greater in general driving than in transportation...

it seems the daftest thing in the world to forget to remove the suspension transport blocks..same thing happened on loads of Octavias as well when I ordered my mk2 vrs!
you would have thought dealers had a checklist that they just tick of the things as they do them..the simpelst thing ever surely?!

My dealer claimed that VW put an extra set in there and didn’t tell the dealership, so they were looking for 2 sets, not 3. Whether they should have had a good fumble to check for more after removing the first 2 is another matter as they get tucked well up into the rubber bellow covers that cover the shock assembly and bump stops.

I'm concerned that I may have missed this issue.
Can't hear any noises when going over bumps, would the noises be really apparent?

I can only comment on my current issue, and that is squeaking, rattling and grinding from the drivers front suspension - and the noise is even more prevalent when i go over a bump. I'm 100% sure mine will need replacing when the car goes in on the 11th, more of a concern for me however is that I've done 3,000 miles now and with 12 further days of driving ahead I'm expecting the damage to be significant. Also hoping something doesn't snap/break in the next 12 days!

I too have started to hear a funny squeaking sound from the front. Need to get hold of vw dealership. Try were told not to touch the rear passenger side squeak.

Sounds like I wouldn't be able to miss it if I were having the issues.
Think I've got an (touch wood) ok GTD.

Word of warning - keep an eye out for it. Mine has really been noticeable only for the last 3 weeks - before that it was ok ish - its certainly got worse over time.

This is just my own take on it (don't profess to be a car mechanic ) having got involved while the cause was being pinpointed - which took a few iterations: -
On mine both the top mount and the bearing that fits inside it were eventually replaced (both sides done, driver's side had been noisier). Initially they tried replacing the mount only and the bearing only.
These components work together as a complete assembly. Providing they are replaced together I'd see no reason at all why there should be any residual damage.
In addition to curing low speed noise over rough surfaces, this also cured a slight noise from the steering (when this bearing rotates).
Hope this might help a bit

I've got this rattle/squeak on the front drivers side too, taking it in soon. I've also very rarely but occasionally get a sort of soft "buzzing" sound coming from the passenger side dash board...anyone else had that?
Then the other day I was driving along and the car was making a sound like as though I was driving over raised road lines/markings when I was on a perfectly flat road (also at low speeds). This one has never come back.
Very concerning. Like a game at the moment of 'guess the sound' These definitely have the feeling of mass production. :(
