Just tried to fit my old Thule 973 Backpac (off a Touran) to my Mk7 GTD and all went well until I started to tighten it up. The clip which fits to the back of the spoiler a the top of the hatchback soon started to "pull" at the spoiler which appears to be plastic bonded to the metal tailgate. So it doesn't look like any tailgate mounted carrier could be properly attached to a GTI/GTD without risking damaging the hatchback spoiler
I checked the Thule website before I bought the correct fitting kit for the MK7 and e mailed them to check if it would fit the GTD and they just referred me back to their website, so I took the chance that the GTD would be similar to all MK 7's.
Anyway it looks like a hatchback mounted bike carrier is out and everyone says get Thule roof bars and Thule Pro Ride carriers. Does anyone know how many bikes will fit on the roof of a MK7 as I need to carry 3 or 4.
If that's a non starter I'll have to get a tailgate carrier to stick on our Mk2 Fabia VRS... Any suggestions for a sturdy easy to fit carrier?

There must be someone out there who has put a bike carrier on a mk7 GTi/GTD?????????

I picked up the official VW bike carrier for the roof rack on ebay recently. Just need a roof rack to go with it. And a car for that matter but it's only a few days away now
I looked at the saris bones hatch racks but don't fancy risking that the paint would get scratched....
