Title: BW51

Just had an email from my dealer saying my car is confirmed for BW51!

Anyone else?

Oh dear, Xmas build week :o

Don't worry mate it'll be fine! Big manufacturers like vw have high levels of quality control I think all weeks are equal and all days of week are equal. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to tactically pick a build week and then wishing you don't get friday. Have faith in the brand you've decided to trust, all the best with your build we'll keep you company on here while you wait. :)

Didn't really bother me, as long as it doesn't come with 3 wheels I'm happy!

Also hope it actually gets built that week...

I think is getting built w/c 15th Dec. caught me by surprise just as I was getting swayed by all the write ups about the performance pack haha

mines in for that week as well..amazing considering I only ordered about 3 weeks ago! I wonder if I got a cancelled slot for the same spec?!

of course it could change yet...

just went back and checked
I ordered 9/11/2013 and confirmed build date is week commencing 15/12/2013..that must be somebody elses cancelled car I have been able  to latch onto?!

Post by: 2014GTi on 28 November 2013, 12:10
It depends on dealer allocations too.
I ordered a my high spec GTi Sept 14th, I amended the order in Oct and got a provisional/confirmed build week of 46.
It should arrive at the dealership this week.
So my car has arrived earlier than the dealers prediction of end of Dec or early Jan :)

If your car gets built on-time you should be ok.
Don't forget that Volkswagen stop Golf 7 production for two weeks for Xmas

I am also down for build week 51. I ordered 4th November (iirc) and got the confirmation 2 weeks ago now it would be BW51.

I told the dealer I want it March 1st, he told me it would be end of April when I ordered, so he can sit on it for a bit tbh.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: Gingernick on 09 December 2013, 12:20
I cant wait!

if I knew it was built and sat and the dealers I couldnt wait another 5 or 6 weeks
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: C2K on 09 December 2013, 14:42
Not too worried, providing it's cared for. I've seen the state they arrive from Grimsby in first hand after a tortuous route down the A16.

I have other commitments to take care of though, such as a house move and a sale of another car which will take some time. Logistically, it suited me to have it for March 1st but the dealer told me that was unachievable, that i'd be looking towards April. Naturally, I ordered it to get it somewhere close, now the pendulum has swung right back past my intended date.

Not to worry.

I wonder if the transport company and ships have 2 weeks off as well?!  I know the nissan boats into the tyne won't be on a 2 week break as I see them coming in.

Post by: JamesR27 on 12 December 2013, 07:13
I was reading the BW50 thread yesterday and it seems to completely unknown for those guys who have cars just built. VW uk told one guy don't expect it before February.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: hastd2 on 12 December 2013, 10:15
Guys I have a BW48 and here is my dealers reply this morning - Morning Doug,

Apologies for the delay in responding but I was offsite at Elgin for meetings all day yesterday but the good news is YES the GTi has updated to showing "shipped" and as you requested the ship details - TYE725.

This should be receipted in UK today and car I expect will then be delivered to the retailer at the start of next week and we will have it ready as soon as possible when it arrives but this will take 2 working days for the PDi etc.

Good news it actually nearly here though.

Regards
David

Anyone gone to build in progress yet?

Hi BW51's…. The tracker seems to be a week behind. Don't despair if it doesn't show Build in Progress yet. It will more than likely move over to Build in Progress next Sunday, but your car will probably have been built by then. I'm going on my experience (BW49) and others.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: C2K on 15 December 2013, 16:30
As above,  it'll be built by the time it shows build in progress on the tracker.

Looking forward to it but lots I need to do before she arrives.

Just noticed this.  I only ordered a few days before hand and got week 51. they have really reduced lead times recently.

Excellent, all going well will we be looking at around 4 weeks until collection?
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: C2K on 16 December 2013, 08:35
It will all hinge around whether the vehicle leaves the factory before  the 2 week shut down I guess.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: C2K on 16 December 2013, 18:13
I had to go to euro car parts this morning anyway so i popped into vw next door. Mine was in production,  showing as gate 1, apparently chassis construction,  so just about to get a vin no.

Just noticed this.  I only ordered a few days before hand and got week 51. they have really reduced lead times recently.
I don't think they have - lead in for a custom, factory order GTD is still around 24 weeks - mine was ordered week 1 of November - no allocated build week yet and don't expect to see a production week allocated until well in to next year. I suspect you have also tapped in to a cancelled or pre-order slot.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: C2K on 16 December 2013, 19:40
With Dcc,  Dynaudio,  winter pack,  leather,  19s, camera and night blue mine is hardly an off the rack build,  it's as custom as any man's build.  Talking to my dealer today he commented on reduced lead times,  but it's definitely not a slot of theirs. They are quite a small dealer (non chain)  and he hadnt cancelled any orders so if that's the case i must be extremely lucky. If i were you i'd be questioning my dealer not just letting it lie! Perhaps an element of your choice is inhibiting an expedient build.   :)
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: Mark V GTD on 16 December 2013, 20:17
Its not neccessarily a slot your dealer had. Fact is virtually everyone who has ordered a GTD at that time was quoted 24 - 26 weeks. You have been allocated an earlier one, perhaps a factory production level - so you were lucky but there is no indication thet build times have suddenly been cut in half.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: stuart.cameron on 17 December 2013, 09:06
When I ordered I was quoted around 20 weeks.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: Gingernick on 17 December 2013, 09:29
me too..which is Why I was amazed (and happy!) when the dealer emailed me the build date of wk51

Title: Re: BW51
Post by: C2K on 17 December 2013, 19:41
I know it's not necessarily a slot they had, but with no national chain clout to pick up any slots, i'd/they'd have to be mega lucky. If you look at the other guys comments in this thread, they've ordered around the same time as me, as have the previous build week threads ordered with similar timescales so the tides appear to be changing from this forum's perspective.

It's of little consequence to me anyway as it's waiting a 14 plate! It's nice to know that it will be at the dealer for the start of March though, whereas he predicted the turn of April before.
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: Climb_Ne on 18 December 2013, 21:07
So randomly my tracker ticked over to build in progress this evening.  Very unexpected considering I had been told my estimated build date was 3 and that I haven't had a build week confirmed message.

An unexpected Christmas present from VW

Post by: C2K on 19 December 2013, 21:14
Haha i know that feeling

I guess the 2 week shut down is in force from tomorrow. Your dealer will be able to tell you where it is.

I suspect your tracker will update tomorrow,  I thought it only happened Sundays so was surprised to see it change today. Probably only means it is on a train to the dock.

Mine will be a 14 plate anyway,  I was originally told it would be almost April. Lol.

Your car is in the final stage of its journey to the UK. On average it takes 10 days from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer
Title: Re: BW51
Post by: dippy_x on 28 December 2013, 13:04
4 weeks means it has left the factory.
3 weeks means it is at the port.
10 days means it is on a ship - it all moved really fast for me when hit that status.

Exciting times coming up.... I know this is not the sound actuator thread, however i very much look forward to hearing from all you lucky new GTD owners (whose cars have been built more than 5 weeks past BW45), to confirm if they do indeed STILL have the bulkhead sound actuator fitted?

As a sweeping statement, I feel the passion and technical knowledge of the many people on this great forum surpass the majority of VW salespeople who have been sending out conflicting messages (possibly lost in translation from the motherland) about the cars they sell. I look forward to your confirmation.... and taking delivery of my GTD sometime in March, with or without the sound actuator

Had the day off anyway and had popped down on a hunch. It was received this morning so is still filthy haha. Checked just now and the tracker says arrived too so it's pretty prompt.

As it happens it has arrived with both IPod cables which is very handy, as mine is the old style and hers is the new one!

Roll on March 1st.

They do it all online, at least they did with me, and they also sent me the registration cover note confirming my detailed a few days after they knew the registration number for it :)

Tax disc still arrives to the dealer by snail mail, but he can either post it out or you can collect. Still don't see the point in wasting paper of these things, roll on 1st October!

Nice, looking forward to seeing another wk51. Still waiting to do mine properly. Just had chance to put 2 coats of Jetseal 109 on so far to keep it protected.

Great stuff not far behind you, I'm set for thurs. Are you going to post on new arrivals? Pretty cool of the salesman to send you the vid, very thoughtful and those sort of details make all the difference.

Looks good!

This weekend I aim to get the car cleaned and sealed.
Replace the cornering bulbs with Orsam Night Breaker Unlimited
Replace the reverse lights with LED's
Replace the front indicators with LED's (and test to see if suitable)
Replace the vanity lights, glovebox and boot lights with LED's

Images are fine, even cooler than the vid a choc car! What a super experience you've had not heard of one better, what's it like to drive?

its hard to explain it...it just feels so good. its not a jarring ride but is so flat in cornering I don't know how they do it (mines a nine DCC) my wife didn't get a test drive (she had the wrong show on apparently!)  but she is smitten as well.

I think the beauty of it is you can bimble along like miss daisy and it behaves impeccably, no jerking or feeling like you need to swap gears constantly. But when you want to go...it will go for as long as you are willing to risk your licence!

quality of the interior is something I have not experienced before coming from a skoda and then an alfa...it really feels like you are somewhere very nice indeed..and the interior lighting at night..its something else!

I just love the way the 3 door looks, the way the rear window matches the angle of the fuel filler cap and the rear bumper line when looking at it side one

plus I have no kids and rarely need the back seats!
its drawing a lot of curiousity at work...people oohing and aahhing over the led strips on the sills and doors :)
