Yep you read correctly I'm confused also.
The above is the car I have placed a deposit on.
She is a f plate small bumper (although converted to big bumper) 16v golf
Now the interesting part is she is badged as a gt no a gti but has 16v next to the gt.
Also paperwork to the car confirms the owners claims of a oetinger engine despite not having the oetinger inlet but does have the oetinger rocker.
Anyone have any ideas in spec of this car or infact what it is.
Oh and its bloody quick

Shame its not got the manifold part aswell its proberly a aftermarket option from a dealer at the time get it dyno'ed it should produce 175 185 BHP if its had all mods other wise its just a oettinger head still oettinger but was fitted at dealers instead of an original Oettinger workshop.
Oettinger 2000E/16v from dealers I think don't take my word its been awhile since I've seen one.
Check the oil sump and show me a picture please?
-
The sump is different to standard 16v. I'm going back today to I finalise the deal and arrange collection in the week so will get loads of pics.
Any ideas what the gt badge was all about i thought only the jetta a and polls had a gt model in the uk and the gt model in Europe was a driver in the uk
-
Very hard to say as most people bought badges over the years and sold them the only one I've seen is the glove box one it has Oettinger next to the 16v gti.
The sump should have long alu fins.
Like I said its not original without the manifold as the block and manifold fit each other only, its more than likely yours will be an aftermarket kit you could add to the purchase of the Gti 16V of its time.
Still good and if its a good price, pistons are freshish and you're happy go for it!

Not sure about the exact location of all conversions. Uk cars i think had them done at sloanes of london, or at gti engineering.
German cars afaik went to oettinger, not all conversions had the intake/rocker cover or ally sump. These were options in the conversion list from what i know.

There's a few things in there that make me believe min is in fact a oetinger.
The one picture on links above has the gt badge same as mine,
Gear ratios sound about right they are deff longer to those I remember my other mk2s having
She has a different engine noise to that of my other k jet mk2s more metallically as described in links above.
Really want to get hold of the previous owner as the guy I bought it off had bought it of a vw specialist who had obtained it from a vw technician who had owned it for 10+ years and most of info I'm getting ATM is third hand there was talk of options and he regretted not having the more aggressive cam and going for the milder option .
Another thing I noticed on the link you posted above is reg plate the oak Green is f 151 mine is f161 this might be a coincidence but are the other 121-131-141 ect?

Here's a few pics of my engine.
Sump looks different to other mk2s

Looks like the £1k I payed for her was even more of a steal than I thought, it was cheap for a mint condition mk2 anyway but with a rare engine even cheaper.
-
thats more than a steal matey!!
nice one!!
Any more pics inc of engine?

Going to be taking her apart soon anyway to paint manifolds ect, and rocker cover so will have a better idea of what she is. Anyone suggest a decent place to have her rolling roadbed and set up? Close to nottingham

Mate has yours got a wiper blank? As mine hasn't only noticed yesterday when washing around that area and thinking something didn't look right
-
are stealth near you? they are somewhere in the midlands and used to be a 16v specialist.
do you mean the rear wiper? no mine is not blanked, oddly i have second switch on the dash that operates mine.
-
No a mean the front, all my previous mk2s have had a blank on the front scuttle panel for a wiper if it was left hand drive
-
pass...will have to check! can't think off the top of my head!

Right then little update. Firstly she rolled over the big 200k this week
2nd update came out of work today to find a note on the car asking if I ever was to sell please phone the number he had left.
After a quick text and call to lad to say car wasn't for sale but thanks for interest he went on to say he had owned the car years ago and was amazed to see her in works car park (he was delivery driver for euro car parts) . The car may or may not be a genuine oetinger but he told me when he had it on the rollers she made 176bhp the engine he believes was fitted at later date and he rebuilt it himself (have receipts for the parts on this from C&R) he says its def a oetinger sump but unsure on what else is oetinger but was told himself that the engine was re-bored to 2.0l (would explain the stamp on front) and has a polished and ported head and also has geared cams?
