Crazy as this sounds I never thought of a reverse light as something designed to light up your path when you're going backwards, more of a light to let people know you're going backwards.

Do you have the normal lights on the 2009 and early 2010 cars or the led version rears from the later car.
The normal lights are not too bad but the led ones are rubbish.
Im going to fit the reversing camera because of the poor led reversing lights as my house is not near any streetlights and is pitch black it makes reversing into the drive and garage difficult.

Given that it's not illuminated for any length of time, I'd have thought that you could safely up the wattage without too great a risk of torching the loom.

Always annoyed me on the mk6 that it had one reverse light and one fog light! My OCD tells me it should have two of each!! >:(

Reverse camera is actually a useful item to have.

Defo prefer two lights and a bit bigger not saying fit a vulgar massive thing but seeing whats behind is important as i often drive through dark unlit single track roads and standard none led

Two reversing lights on a mk6 Golf would be nice but VW have cut the price to a minimum when there is plenty of room for two, alot of othe VW's only have one.

A dim light means a duff bulb or low voltage which it bad connections or earth.

You could get your motor scanned for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them.

I didnt find the non led ones bad. My house is in pitch black due to no street lights and I have to reverse into the drive turning 90 right through the gates  then 90 left into the garage. I found the normal rear lights ok. The led rear lights though with its much smaller reversing light I cannot see anything.
My leon has twin rear lights and is only slightly better than either than the light versions on the mk6. My mk1 golf has large lights and lights it up much better.

Maybe try an LED bulb to replace the standard oem one.

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but did anyone get a solution to the pathetic reversing light as I'm having similar issues now!
