Basicaly i saw a Mk2 golf in town last night and it has its indicators on all the time so using them as sidelights but when he indicated right the unit still flashed so how does one go about this on a mk3 ?
it quite like the look , ive done a quick google but all the cars ive seen have all been US spec already so not much help or bm's where all the lights are in one lamp anyways not seperate like the mk3
anyone got some advise ?

some of these have an extra "day running light" in them which you can use as sidelights leaving the indicator to do it's original job. It's not hard to just add an extra bulb to your standard units and wire them into your original sidelight wiring :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CRYSTAL-SMOKED-BLACK-INDICATORS-FOG-LIGHTS-FOR-VW-GOLF-MK3-III-BRAND-NEW-/221287137328?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3385bdc030

You need these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk3-3-Crystal-Clear-Front-Indicators-vr6-gti-/360465527244?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53ed6b71cc#ht_463wt_721
If you look at second pic, you will notice an extra wire thats for the little side light. It will look like this:

And when indicator is on and flashing, The side light will cancel out.

Great idea if you want to drive around looking like your indicators are stuck on

unless you get the chrome coated indicator bulbs so doesn't reflect orange but still orange on the inside.
seems like a good look different i suppose.
-
you can use these instead of bulbs.

I doubt it is legal and could be very interesting in a crash if the other driver was to say you were indicating at the time.

well a lot of people don't know that they are indicators so wouldn't assume you was indicating as they would think your indicators were in the headlights i don't think this would cause a problem as your side lights are white and indicators are orange.

I'm confused now !.I thought the idea is to use the indicator units as indicators but to also use them as sidelights ?.
So why not leave the indicators as they are and add white led's or 5w bulbs/holders to each unit. When indicators are on will they not outdo the white bulbs/led's ?.

Its ok.I just woke up.If you are using std gti units then you have the orange filters behind the white lenses. That's gonna cause a problem.
I was thinking about it only if you used crystal lights.
I will stand in the corner now.........................
