Everything worked fine until Tuesday, double click on the key fob opened all. Key in drivers door turn twice opened all.
Now boot stays locked, can't hear the boot mechanism kicking in when i use the fob.
Tried the key in the boot slot after a spray of WD40 but that won't turn.
Seems like the wrong key
Not worried about replacing the locking device but need to open my boot first
Thanks.

The mechanism is seized, probably due to a leaking washer pipe at some point.
You need to get the rear panel off through the boot; not an easy job but doable. One screw in the top of each of the handles then pull like mad. You'll then be able to pop the boot manually, get to all of the mechanism and free it up.
I've just had to do mine but luckily the key barrel didn't seize up so I could get in there

I cant even put the key into the barrel on my mk4. Can you change the lock barrel?
