Hi all,
My golf's in the body shop from tomorrow getting the rear arches and sills cut out and nice new ones put in lol.
Going to be doing a lot of cosmetic work to the car over the following months to get it looking nice and made of metal not rust, was just wondering I'm sure I've seen a post before although could not find it talking about the metal in the side plastic trim of the car?
If I remember correctly they rust causing the trim to look slightly warped mine do slightly look like this so I was wondering where I could order them from, vw? Does anyone know a part number?
Also would it make sense to just order the plastic which I presume would come with the metal, or can you just replace the metal?
Sorry if I'm just imagining all this and the metal doesn't even exist lol!

There's something about in the FAQs along with the part numbers

Thank you Craig! I never seem to have any luck when using the search function i'm sure I had seen it! I'll have a look through you don't know if there's anything about the sill covers too? I have the lower part but I believe its the metal part that rusts that im missing ?

I thought it was the sill covers you were referring to, I don't think there's any metal inside the door rub strips I've just had mine off n didn't see any.

Okie dokie thanks Craig big help man, Managed to find the thread in the section you referred me to! Anyone reading this here the link to it!

I was just about to post that link

Can people let us know what prices they pay for these (I may have found a supplier for 100% rubber/plastic inserts without the metal bit but need to ensure buying a batch is worthwhile)
-
Brad I presume your talking about the top sill covers?
I've seen a company on ebay advertising them:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk3-VR6-GTI-Side-Skirt-Top-Sill-Cover-Strip-OEM-VW-Worldwide-Shipping-/161071355918?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+III&hash=item258099d80e
seems a bit expensive though, that's going to be nearly £115 once you've added the delivery for two bits of plastic

So I've bit the bullet after looking through the reviews everyone seem to be happy with the sill covers they have got from that company posted in the link.
I was referred to some on ebay by another member but the seller didn't want to post in the ad, I tried VW and quoted the part numbers and the only dealer close to me couldn't find the part and wanted me to come down on Saturday. I'm picking the car up then and being impatient as I am my bank just took a hit!
I'll post some pictures up on the quality when they arrive, They come with the back square bits which is handy as the fronts are still on mine! check my project thread from Saturday  for pictures of the body work being done :)

I ask as last time I bought one it cost about £40 inc vat and I understand vw have changed the design a bit (to stop them rusting!) hence a new part number.
-
Surely somewhere does them cheaper than that?
