Title: Just Purchased ED35 today,couple of Q's
Post by: GS WAX on 17 November 2013, 17:33
Hi All,

Finally... the wait is over,i found a 35 edition in Acceptable condition today and a deal was done, the dealer is sorting a couple of issues prior to delivery, however on my 2 1/2hr drive home the mind was working overtime about a couple of items that I forgot to ask about ,Im coming from a mk5 Edition 30 so don't know what a mk6 should have had when New.

1;  The leather look Handbook folder,Should it be  GTI or 35 Branded like the MK5 version ?

2:  Should there be a Tag with a number to get spare keys, again like my mk5,and only two keys and no blanks or small emergency ones?

3:  Do the folding mirrors only dip in reverse when the Knob is set to L, and can it be changed with vagcom?

4: Is it normal for the rear camera to make what best can be described as a "creaky" noise when operating?

Thanks in advance

The handbook in my 35 is just a regular VW golf one, I simply kept the one from my ed30 and swapped them over

I just received 2 keys with mine, no emergency key tag etc but didnt with my ed30 either..

My mirrors only dip in reverse when set to L or R, I'd be interested to know whether it can be set in VCDS too tbh

Can't help on the camera issue but I'd say it doesn't sound right do get them to look at it as my friends failed on his GTD

Good choice !

My folder I think is a standard golf gti version , nothing 35 about it.

I received 2 keys, no other tags or anything.

You can set the door mirrors via the handbook instructions. It explains how to do it. I think you can position the switch in any position and the dip will still work. You can set the mirrors for different positions for each key if you have 2 drivers.

I have a rear camera and haven't noticed any noise that has caused me concern to take a closer look.

Enjoy it when you get it... Get some pics on ...

Thanks all for the helpful hints,

Good to know I have the correct booklet and no key tags, I like things to be how they are supposed to.

Sounds like I will contact dealer to get them to check the camera,my first thought was it sounded strange but salesman said its perfectly normal.

Im over the moon with it, Have been looking since June this specific color/door/gearbox configuration with no luck, looked at about 6 and was beginning to loose faith in VW as I couldn't find one that had decent panel fit and felt like an upgrade over the ED30.
Took a bit of a compromise with mileage and owners( teen and two), but the spec is reasonable with Lux,Winter,NAV,Dynaudio,F&R Sensors + camera and Glendales, but most importantly the build and condition is spot on without any pre sale preparation.

I will retrofit cruise and tpms along with a bit of VCDS fettling and that should keep be occupied for a while after it has had a thorough cleaning.

Quick iphone pic from earlier today and my current steed,of which I cant make my mind up whether to part with or not.....

Don't go putting ideas in my head , not even taken delivery and i'v been spending on it already
the mandatory 35 badge for the tailgate, bit of a shock at the price  I thought it would be about a tenner...
rear diffuser to be painted 041 black and a satin chrome glovebox release lever.
Also got a price for some 340mm TTS Discs(which aint all that bad) not surprisingly tps had no stock, I was hoping to compare the weight saving over my 345mm s3 jobbies before I rob them off the 30.

BTW should there be an extra supplement information manual specific to the 35,like you would get with the 30/Pirelli ?

Thank you.

The Glendale's are growing on me, only ever seen them in pictures or very dirty and bad condition, have to say I liked them better when I viewed the car on Sunday,if im honest I think the cars corner better on 18's,not as skittish, but will reserve final judgement until shod with some Michelin PSS's instead of worn Dunlops and on familiar roads.

I have a couple more Q's,been reading the Vag-Com tweeks sections here and there and being as I know F***all about this im not actually clear on a few things.

Can I activate the One touch closure of windows via the key fob,ie press/hold lock for a couple seconds  and windows roll up without having to keep finger pressed on lock button, other countrys forums seem to think not.
on mk5 I think it was something like :central conv-46 ,byte 6, check bit 6 for comfort func auto closure.

I have added the Door warning lights fitted to the door panel of my mk5,was thinking of removing them, again other forums seem to say there are different versions of these,Do I need new units to be able to have the same on the 35?

Wait until you clean those wheels... They are so easy to clean, behind the spokes and right to the back of the rim, they look so nice when you can see the clean rim all the way through the spokes. They will be very easy for you after those ed30 wheels

Ahh ease of use, I like the sound of that, ed30 wheels were/are a PITA especially as I do it for a living, so much harder when your not getting paid

Think im changing my mind about getting some Watkins Glen aswell

Ed30 looks lush! Think you will be happy with the Ed35 tho. The mk6 is a definite step up from the mk5, as gd as it is. I went from a mk5 Gti to a mk6 Gti.

Thanks,

ED30 is one of the main reasons it took so long to find, all before were either in not as good condition or didn't feel like a step up to drive, this was the only one of 6 that made the cut, hence ownership, I nearly gave up looking,i was just about to go and pre order a mk7 R, thinking how hard can it be to find a year old car I decent nick, then this one came up and my faith was restored.

I wasn't real fussed if it was a GTI or a 35 at first, but I knew the spec I wanted, had to be 3door DSG with Xenons and White with the option to go for steel Grey, but one didn't crop up,then after viewing a 35 I changed my mind to "it has to be one of those" because it felt a little bit more special.

Congrats on the car buddy!! Love my 35. Even more so with my vwr catback. I had to buy the 35 wing badges and almost fainted when told the price, but they need to be there imo and gives the car it's identity. My mirror only dips on the passenger side, can this be altered??

Car is here      but....ARRRRRR, dealer fitted the wrong tyres

No real drama as they are sending the correct ones in the week, just means I cant use it with the Glendales at the moment, I was hoping to offer my spare 19" BBs CH's as trade bait for some Watkins Glen, but I might fit them to the 35 so I can at least drive the thing.

on the up side it gives me an excuse to have the wheels off and give them a thorough cleaning and fit a few new aditions

wow, I must say having both in the garage next to each other it doesn't arf make the 30 look old and dated

ttdan nice motas

I still think IMO that the Mk5 shape is the more aesthetically pleasing. Yes there is always moving forward in dynamics, engines, efficiency but the Mk 5 is the one that has the best shape. The Mk 6 is nice but not better and the Mk 7 has grown uber fat.

The mk5 to me was too round to be a golf and had an audi nose.  It was too euro bubble and trying to hard like a micra was.. If you see the mk5 in a line of gti marks its the one that looks wrong. It even looked wrong next to my mk1 in my garage unlike the mk6. It was designed to attract bmw customers and it worked. It was a very good car but just lacked the golf family look.

It is a bit round and the lack of a colour coded rear bumper on the GTI didn't help, although that is easy enough to get painted.

I still like the MK5 shape, dated now but still pretty.  the 6 has much more continuity, what I could never understand with the 5 is why on earth did VW remove the rear side window rubbers from 07 MY onwards and the rear quarter panel swage line looks all wrong because of it,well it does on 3 door, 5 door isn't so bad, to me it should have feathered out before it got to the door handle.
And those side skirts, what model did they have those left over from, coz they certainly were not meant for a golf.
Well atleast they have addressed that issue for me on the 6

I like the rear end on the 5 and the front end on the 6....i'm just really pleased that i can have my cake and eat it with the ed30 engine in the mk6.

Jumping between the two is interesting as i really think the build quality is not the step up on the mk5 that i thought it would be.  Its really marginal but the little things show. The parcel shelf is thinner, the plastics, all apart from the main dash which is vastly improved are no better than the 5. Its quieter but still has that exhaust note in the cabin when you give it some beans. The later RNS510 is good and the stereo is improved, love the BT audio but my ipod doesn't wake up without unplugging and re plugging...The bi xenons are a step up and mine has bendy lights which i didn't know about!

Now all it needs is another 60 bhp and lowering a bit

I've got the bendy light thing too, garage I got mines from specced all the toys. Most toyed car I've ever owned.

I leave the dynamic lightning on all the time. Most noticeable now in the darker nights of course. You could defo live without it but you can see the difference quite clearly IMO in cornering....

Enjoy ya mota Sir
