Title: Car spending getting out of control?
Post by: Ozz on 22 August 2005, 22:58
Mine seems to be  Always seem to be buying something else for the car, and not selling anything

This adds up to me getting poorer and poorer, soon I wont be able to put petrol in the car, so I wont even be able to drive the thing that ive spent all my money on!!! Its all getting a bit silly really, but I just love getting new stuff for the car!!

Anyone else have this problem?

I think we all have this problem ,its just part of driving vw i could probably run a "normal car" for half the price my vr costs ,and not want to buyanything for it ,
but what would be the point in that?

It's never going to happen Gaz!! You know that old dubs cost money just to keep alive but then when you go on adding bits and pieces if you add it all up it's scary! My way of looking at it is I've spent a fortune but hey it's done and spent and i managed to survive so why worry about how much it costs! It's an individual car and you don't get many of them nowadays :D

Love the sig Knight!

It is a mad thing and it does cost a fair bit to keep them good. I was at a BMW show on Sunday (conned by my mate who told me it was a German Car event ).

I went up with his mate whos car is a UBER5 BMW (won best German car at MAX POWER). THis cost £100k to do (yes 100K). How do people get this involved with it all? Baffles me. It looks ok and goes well. Supercharged 4litre engine!

Yup, until around 3 months ago when my girlfriend stopped me spending so much, So instead i went mad and spent it on even more drugs and alchole (considering it was bad enaugh when i was buying car stuff) Luckly now my girlfriend saw the errors of my ways (and the vommet on the carpet) and now im back with a new job and even more money to spank on shiny stuff for my beloved VW :D VIVVA LA POVITY!

Its the little things that add up that get me, like a debadged grill hear and crystal headlights there etc, you dnt realise how much all this stuff costs until you actually sit down and think about it, but who cares. At least its going on something worth while!!
People at work think I am mad but, i live at home still and i dnt may much board so what else am I supposed to spend my money on!!!???

Last year while I was living at home, at one point I had my Mk3 16v, had spent about a grand on it since buying 6months before and had a Mk2 16v on the drive waiting to be put into action.
Then I moved to London, had to sell the Mk3 cos it was costing too much, and then the Mk2 had to go cos I had gone from paying £100 per month rent to £400.

If you can spare the cash, then why not spend it on a car, money is only fleeting, it's not going to last so you might as well enjoy it.

I second that, I was happy plodding along with a bog standard cabby with a few bits of rust here and there, but that's gone right out of the window now.  Even bought a fookin camper so I dont have to put a tent up at VW shows !

18 months ago i was workin a 40+ hour week in a garage as a HGV mechanic , earning aroun £350 per week , living at home and spending all i could on my cars. then i decided that it would be a good idea to leave and be a student , its uber difficult to go from spending what you like when you like to struggleing to find money for food let alone your car , i tried really hard with my golf and in the end it was the situation that others were in aswell as me which meant the i was never going to get it compleate , spending money on you car is all good , it difficult when your life and hobbie you cant do because of a few paper nots
