Title: Rusty rear light cluster panel- replacement?
Post by: Mart8V on 16 November 2013, 21:56
Hi All,

The NSR light cluster has rust on the panel behind it and needs replacing, but I am really reluctant to change the whole of the lower panel below the tailgate (as available from VW Heritage).  It is possible just to get the light surround and have it welded in?  Rest of the panels are factory and I would like to keep it that way.

Rear panel and quarters will need a light re-spray too (going pink!) so if I can save on welding that would be a real bonus.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I think tig welding  the whole panel would be easier than trying to join seam lines just for the rear cluster section, plus the only other way would be a breakers yard and then Dremel off a larger section so you aren't left short if going down that route!

You could buy a rear panel assembly, and drill out the relevant spot-welds leaving you with the part that you require...

Thanks for the replies.  Having not managed to track down the single cluster panel I was fearing that might be the case.

Looks like I may have to bite the bullet and go for a pattern panel after all......
