Been having a look about and cant find much info on wheel hop when accelerating harshly. I did find a website that explains it and says the main cause is worn out suspension bushing, as my car has only done 27k I would be surprised if they are worn out already! The wheels very rarely spin up they mainly hop under full throttle, 3/4 throttle they will grip with no problems. If the road is dam it will hop even more.
Does anyone else have problems with wheel hopping?

First place to start is your tyres.
Stiffer control arm bushes and engine mounts usually reduce wheel hop. The stock bushes are softer so allow for more movement. Stiffer engine mounts will transmit more engine vibrations through the cabin/steering wheel and pedals.
It might not fully eliminate it from a standstill but you should see an improvement.
Any modifications?

None at the mo but plan when got the money for turbo back system air box and remap so can only see the problem getting worse so want to get it fixed before more power is added.
The tyres are some random make on the front so may some better ones in the new year
-
100% change those tyres and your geometry might need checking too.
You could go for an anti-Lift kit and a Powerflex dogbone insert as upgrades.
If you Google Rubber vs Poly bushes you will find plenty of info.

Better tyres and beter throttle control will sort it
WALK and torque arm insert make it all but disappear except in very wet/slippy conditions

Thanks for your replies... new tyres are defo on the list to get, looking at powerflex bushings and cant find one called a torque arm. I was looking on here as a reference.

Edit: Found them was looking in suspension bushings not engine, is it worth replacing the engine and gearbox bushings as the car isn't really ever gonna have more then 300bhp and wont be used for track only road? I don't really wanna be sitting in a vibrating car if I can get away with slightly softer bushings

this is what you need mate:

And if your richer then look down this list near the bottom:

I was looking at these 2 bushings on powerflex website
http://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/product-details/Lower+Engine+Mount+Insert+%28Large%29+/1915.html
http://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/product-details/Lower+Engine+Mount+Small+Bush/506.html
Then when got some more cash looking at the products down the bottom you mentioned. Problem I got is I listed everything I want to buy for my car and it totals nearly how much I paid for it!!

Yeah the top one is right, not 100% what the second one is for but im sure someone on here will tell you soon

Go for the insert, it's what I've got. There is some extra feedback through the steering wheel on idle but it's not OTT.
-
I take it that you have the yellow insert? is it worth changing the top mount aswell or will just the bottom one do the job.
would replacing the wishbone & anti roll bar bushings increase the handling any noticeable amount or are the stocks ones pretty good anyway?
-
The yellow insert will be fine.
If you want to address wheel hop you will need to change the bushings or you can install the S3 lower control arms which are lighter and have stiffer rubber bushings as standard.
Then you may want to look at the engine mounts too. The sway bar is for body roll.
And remember to change those tyres!

dogbone insert helps quite a bit

Is the wheel hop that bad? I've had my car just over a yr and think I've only had wheel hop twice. I have crappy arrowspeed tyres on the front as well. Just about controlling your right foot IMO. I try and be quite progressive with my acceleration. No point spinning up the wheels! I'm sure there are things that can be done to improve things as others have suggested. I'd say just try and be a little smoother.

Ive noticed that I cant use full throttle off the line starts as this is where it happens if I wait that half second to second before easing to full it doesn't happen... pretty much same way not to get the wheels to spin.
I would have thought that with the 4000rpm hold with the clutch down quickest start would be to hold the revs quickly release the clutch let the traction control take up any wheel spin and off you rocket (seem to work very well in the dry) but in the damp they hop like crazy, wet road they just spin up tho
