Anyone else got some annoying interior rattles yet ?. I have one under the vent on the top of the dash...and both the top door trims have a faint one..very annoying  ...already been in once for the first one and it's back already...ho hum
-
welcome to the world of golf ownership  rattly dashes, creaky doors and expanding windscreens .. its all part of the fun !
-
yea, rattles in dash and both doors, crap !!!!
-
Put ya babay/young kid in the back with a rattle and you wont even notice the cras one anymore
-
I rattle too - exactly in the same place as you - top dash vent and both doors - drives me mad !!!!!!!!
-
My GTI is less than a month old.
It's got a rattle on top of the dashboard where that vent is as well
-
Had this on my first MK V golf, the dealer removed the vent and placed some padding or something in there and it stopped.
-
I also have the rattles. Not on for a VW Golf.
-
driverside door when above 60mph
-
I have rattles everywhere! under the vent, driver door, passenger seat, been to the dealer 3 times they havent got a clue, very very disappointed. The car is very good otherwise.
-
Most dealers are now padding the dash vent when people complain about that particular rattle.. go back in there and kick up a fuss until they sort it. Tell them you're concerned the seat rattle could be a safety issue and you're considering writing to VW HQ.
-
can say the only rattles i have are when things jump around in the ashtray and door etc.
But i have got that whilstling mind issue when going fast. Some peeps say its the seals, but if you have it try the following.
Drive at speed with your window down and place your hand over the indicator bit on the external mirror. My whistling goes, must be airflow around the joint.
Sort of live with it now lol
-
i've found out about my dash rattles?
it is when i have cds in the glovebox, doh doh lol!!!!!!!!

alot of owners are filling the gap with a thin layer of silicon sealer.

3000 kilometers done in mine and no rattles from the interior, except a slight resonans from the midrange speaker cover when playing loud at certain frequencies.
Havent come across any car that can withstand soundpressure without some amount of resonans though....
-
I've got a stange ticking noise coming from the glove box. Yes I've checked for bombs  It's going in on Friday but I don't hold out much hope.
-
Yep - mine rattled BIG STYLE, but I sorted it.
Windscreen wiiper assembly (the whole dang thing) was slack - so slack that one of the retaining bolts had fallen out & disappeared. 10mm hex socket and a cable tie fixed it - at least until I get another bolt.
Check yours - mine was moving about 10-15mm
Whistles as well sometimes - but my missus says that it goes away at 147mph. Shes nutz.

Delighted to say no rattles here yet............
But thought you might like to hear about a neighbour we had a few years ago who got mega uptight about a rattle he had in his then brand new mkiii GTi. After it had been into the dealer three times with no result - each time they said they couldn't hear any rattles, each time he got more uptight.
The neighbour then spent a couple of afternoons dismantling & rebuilding the dash himself, but still he couldn't fix it.
Then one day, completely by chance, he discovered what the problem was, it was the buttons on the demountable radio front. Which of course, because he was a very security conscious kind of a chap he took with him every time he left the car at the dealers........... :embarassed:

-
I've had rattles in both door panels, the top of dash centre vent, the rear seat catches, and the handbrake release button.
All fixed now apart from the handbrake button.
-
 I love my  Gti but it was back at the dealer last month with rattles. They replaced the central vent on the dashboard but I have a sunroof & it now makes a noise over bumps! & we've plenty of them down here - traffic calming and all. I'll take it back in for them to look at that. I've just ordered a R32 yesterday & am doing with out the sunroof this time just in case!(whilst saving 500 quid in the process)
-
I've just had the top vent on the dashboard replaced and now my doors are rattling
-
i had rattles in all 4 doors, eventually i located the noise to be the reflectors at the bottom of each door. I pulled them out and no more rattles.
The centre console on the dashboard made loads of strange rattles and buzzing noises, so i bought a can of GT85, took the car apart using the pictures the doc has posted for fitting a bluetooth nokia kit and sprayed it all over. No noises so far!
-
Aaaaarrrgh !
I have the dashboard vent rattle
Speaker buzz in the fns door
And the fns seatbelt buckle bangs against its housing
In summary...........
-
Bl00dy typical... i posted earlier about having no rattles and on my next drive the cr@ppy piece of perforated tin that is mascarading as an air vent on the top of the dash is vibrating and clicking again. Back out again with that can of GT85. If anyone has had anything additional added by a dealer to fix this could you post some pics? Or any other ideas for permanent fixes for rattles around and inbetween the top vent and the cd player. I'd take it back to the dealer but they're feckin useless.
-
"I'd take it back to the dealer but they're feckin useless" - I have to agree
How true - I'm getting more than a little tired of poor build quality issues on 20 - 30k golfs!
VW sent out a questionaire asking about problems etc and I wrote that the build quality on my R32 way at best, poor in my opinion and that build quality is now low. I then listed all of the faults with my motor on delivery - see previous postings!
I also stated that if my new R32 in September is built like the one I have now then I won't be buying anymore Golfs in future and will be rejecting that car on quality issues!
Lets see what they write back!
-
She's booked into the dealers tomorrow. They seem confident that they can fix the rattles and will re fix the reflectors that i had to take out of the doors. Will keep you posted.
-
I have a rattle in my drivers door (high up) and O/S/R by the parcel shelf
Maybe my new one won't have the same rattles!
-
I dropped the car in to the dealers today and saw an R32 in silver. It looked superb. and sounded even better.
Meanwhile, if they cannot find what it is that rattles i've found some excellent acoustic foam that can be used in panels and dashboards for sound deadening. We use it in the joinery industry for manufacturing acoustic wall panels and is class 0 fire rated, so it won't burn in a fire. If anyone's interested i can give you the info. I think it is the same or similar to the acoustic foam that is used on the underside of bonnets to deaden sound from the engine.
-
Nice 1...
...where can i get it?
-
My misses is now so sick of the rattling door cards that she's wanting to get back in an Audi!!!!!!
Why the hell have we paid extra for the soundpack plus, when you can't have the volume at a decent level!! We've given the dealer a little bit of time to sort it..........
-
You can get it from CMS acoustic solutions. A 12mm thick 2m x 1m sheet will cost you £9.38, or you can get it self adhesive on one side for £17.73 plus delivery charge. Phone no is 01925 577711.

Typical dealer, they had the car for 2 days and when i picked it up the second it moved it made the noise straight away. Since then i've taken it apart, used some punf foam, foam tape and GT85 on switchgear and it is solid. Whilst i was at the garage i saw an R32 with 900 miles on it that was rattling from everywhere inside. I can't understand why they make 80% of the dash in sound deadening rubber material and then stick such cheap bits of plastic in the middle of it.
Rant over
Picture of a 997 Turbo would cheer me up
-
Matt I told you the radio was cack - the one is our A3 is rattle free - I don't understand VW sometimes - And if my new one rattles I wont be keeping that long either
