Title: Couple of problems- flickering dash and steering
Post by: shiloh on 15 November 2013, 13:19
Hi everyone, I have a couple of problems with my 02 1.8t gti.

Firstly, my dashboard and speedo clocks seem to flicker at night with the lights on, this seems to be worse on a cold engine.

Secondally the steering wheel no longer points straight inline with the wheels. When driving in a straight line the wheel apears to be about 20degrees anticlockwise, had new suspension bushes fitted a few months ago but only just noticed this. The problem may have been there for quite some time but now that I've noticed it its driving me crazy

Does anyone have any advice on either of the above issues. Any guidance would be very much appreciated

What suspension bushes did you have replaced? The tracking needs doing due to the new bushes would be my guess

Dash lights flickering could be due to the dimmer control under the headlight failing

Think it was the front strut top mount bushes and rear beam mounting bushes I had done. Tried playing with the dimmer on a few settings but didn't seem to make any difference. The air con one looks like its flickering too and the radio cuts out for a second every few minutes but for some reason not when its playing a cd. Could it be a loose connection somewhere?

Any recommendations about where to get the tracking done. Heard bad things about quickfit.
