ok so I replaced my clutch last week and everything was running smooth :) and I drove from cairnryan Scotland down to Doncaster 246 miles all was well until I pulled off the a1 and suddenly no power and the engine cut out and I rolled to a stop the battery light was on the dash and that's it, tried to turn her over once at stand still and nothing so I took the keys out of the ignition then tried again and she started up again fine but I have noticed in the morning lately turning the car on seems to be a real pain ie keys in wait for engine prep then turn the key to start... it starts but it only goes to about 500 revs then down then up until I put a bit of pressure on the accelerator pedel and it eventually springs into life.
no fault codes
could this be down to the cold weather or do you think there is an underlying problem?
thanks in advance

Car should not do this, what's your oil level like?
Is your thottle body dirty? Faulty Maf?
-
Get your battery and alternator checked out too
-
As Rhys says get the charging side of things checked, a cold snap soon finds out dodgy battery cells

maf is good tb is clean as a wistle oil level is fine and battery is healthy :/

Any earth straps on the gearbox. Could of came loose since gearbox has been out. Or chafing on something. I know these engines dont like having power cut when running.

now you mention it..... i cleaned the car earlier and left the engine running and as i popped my head down by the passanger side wheel the gear box seems to be making like a crunching sound/ like as if you can hear the teeth of the gears touching together if you know what i mean.
i checked and double checked all wires as when i helped my bro change him clutch we forgot to attach the earth wire in would not stop lol so not i wiring problem :/
