how low a cars been dropped  as my golf has been lowered but by how much i dont know and i know the passenger rear suspension is fooked as i can hear it scraping im thinking replacing the whole lot as i dont know whats on and may be cheaper what do u guys think oh and another way i can tel the car looks lopsided when driving

you have to measure form the centre of the wheel directly up to the bottom of the centre of the arch.

a standard mk2 measures 360mm, 8v gti's measure 340mm and 16v's measure 330mm. pretty much all measuring kits measure from standard ride height so a 40mm drop will only effectively drop a 16v by 10mm over its standard ride height, an 8v 20mm and a standard by the full 40mm.

if your suspension seems knackered then i'ts got to be worth replacing. a decent but reasonably priced set up should cost in the reigon of £200 for uprated shocks and springs. while your at it do the bump stops and top mounts too.

Add a few more quid and you could get coilovers. Venom are doing some good deals at the moment.

What are coilovers? I have heared it mentioned numours times, but i have no idea what they are  :huh:

coilovers are a type of suspension which look like these:

the name is a bit mis-leading but compare them to standard shocks and springs. they allow you to position the lower platform wherever you want which means you can lower it as much or as little as you want. word. :wink:
