Title: Shaking at around 50-80mph
Post by: Winniee on 09 November 2013, 14:00
Im not 100% sure if its my phone holder making it worse but there is definately a shake from about 50mph onwards, the harder i floor it the quicker it goes away. Any ideas? Tracking and wheel balancing done today and still not much better?

Polybush dogbone mount also on.

Thought I'd mention a couple of weeks ago my gearbox mount broke and the gearbox fell onto the passenger side drive shaft. Also thought that might have buckled etc. If so it should all be being replaced in the next few week.

In need of a new clutch but worked it out to be cheaper to buy a 6 speed box with shafts and clutch than just the clutch itself!

Have you noticed much vibration at idle with the poly dog bone?

Also, do you have a 5spd box ATM? If so you can get the vr6 g60 combo for 200ish less hassle than changing to 6spd.

I think Baxxy mentioned there was a slight vibration on idle yes but has been polybushed.

5 speed is in at the moment yeah but with labour being next to nothing I just thought it would be a bit more eco to go 6sp

Price up both options dude. But at the end of the day it's only you who can decide. :)

I really wouldn't bother with a speed conversion tbh.

The vibration could be the shafts, it could also be a number of other things...flat spot on tyre or wheel?

Its really about the gains of the box, just the price that has worked out about the same with labour. I wouldn't really know if it was a flat spot really but the vibration wasn't there when I got it. Nowhere near as bad if it was..

Polybushed dog bone should only make a difference on idle, you shouldn't feel any extra vibration once you are moving, especially not at 50+ mph

It's got a vibration in tick over same as mine which tells me it's the dog bone.... Did you replace the gearbox mount with new bolts when it fell out?

Is it worth getting another dog bone mount?

It's recently had:

Both wishbones
New gearbox mount
Serviced
Rear pad
Tracking and camber done
Front wheels balanced

Like I said there's the issue that could be the driveshaft but I'm not 100% sure if that could be it.

It feels fine 1st, 2nd and 3rd. More towards the end of 3rd (50mph) and the beginning of 4th and 5th is when it starts rather bad.

I wouldn't get another polly dog bone save the cash and splash out on an genuine r32 one
just a shot in the dark but put your front wheels on the back and back on the front see if it improves mate

Someone mentioned this aswell. Is there not an issue with rotation?

Also does that mean I'll have to go get them balanced aswell?

Aslong as you stick to the same side of the car you will be fine and if your rear wheels didn't get balanced the other day then they might need balancing good luck go and get busy
Check you gearbox bolts if there second hand they might have come loose again
