Title: New car help
Post by: luke on 05 November 2013, 22:16
So I feel it's time to stop buying cheap cars that always have problems and spend a bit more on a motor, budget of about £3.5k but not sure until next week, was looking at diesels but have been tempted by some petrols, my list so far;
Honda civic type r ep3
Ford Fiesta st
Golf Mk4 gttdi
Golf Mk5 gttdi
Audi a3 tdi
Ford focus tdci
Skoda Fabia vrs
Seat Ibiza tdi fr
Nissan Silvia s13
Bit of a big list
Anybody have any advice on any of these? Cheers

I'd go with the Civic or Fiesta for reliability but for 3.5k and semi reliable I'd be saying MK4 or Ibiza. Probably more Ibiza tbh. MK5 would be major bottom end.

S13 would be fun but the costs are huge.

Only thing that puts me off with the fiesta is the power, drove one before and felt rather slow, possibly going to look round a few garages and part ex the mondeo or possibly looking at car auctions

S13's are an fanatasic drive. Still one of my favourite cars to this day.

As above costs can be high. Depending on the mileage and condition/service history can result in the engines going. Not too mention the CADET's engines have choclate bottom ends.

Edit...on the S131 - last I seen - rolling shells were going for around 1.5 to 2k .

Out of the rest...the type-r would be fun :)

Think my main choices now are out of the ep3 and the Audi a3 but I'd want a 3 door and the 2.0 tdi lump and s line trim, but anything in my budget for that will be high mileage and would prefer under 90k as I've never spent over 650 on a car

Why don't you narrow it down to diesel or petrol.

Then when funds are in place go and test drive options.

Had a similar dilemna recently but stuck with a Passat.
Paid £2k for a 84k mileage 05 plate 1.8T
Going to Rtech next weekend for some of their attention!
