Title: cutting out & central locking pump
Post by: vw_golf_nutter on 05 November 2013, 09:58
hi all,
my 2.0 cabrio cuts out occasionally when im driving, the whole car seems to just die although the radio stays on and you cant pull your foot off the clutch to restart it so it hasnt just stalled.
when this happens it takes a few minutes to restart.
any ideas?

the other thing is my central locking motor seems to carry on going when i open the doors, keeps making a buzzing noise, do i just replace the whole black motor thing in the boot?

Cutting out could be a lot of things my car did that but after a few times didn't start again it was crank sensor.

Yours could be lots of things coil pack, crank sensor,Bad earth somewhere, or even one of the relays on the fuse box.

With the relays i think you can check these by seeing if they are warm after a little drive thats tells you they are working.

central lcoking pump keeps running because you have a leak in the vacuum system.
check the door connections.

how do i check for leaks in the door sensors?

most likely the leak will be in the door rubber grommet where all the wires run into the door, or behind the connector on the a-pillar inside the car.
boot lid hinges being another common place to leak, just think of where wires and tubing would actually get moved often, that's where they are likely to break

so how do i know when i find the leak? do i need to unlock and lock the car whilst looking at these problems zones and listen for air leaks kinda thing.

sorry im a bit of a novice!

no need to lock or unlock, u can usually spot where the leak is because the tubing is broken or cracked severely

well. you kinda need to have a door or the boot open to inspect to pull the rubbers back to see if the tubing is disconnected or broken. if it's disconnected then reconnect, if broken replace it (you can pretty much use standard tubing). taping up won't last very long.
