Has anybody had a fold-out warning triangle supplied with their car? There is a small flap secured by a twist knob on the underside of the hatchback which is designed to secure a squarish tube holding a warning triangle for emergencies but nothing was supplied with mine. Should I ask the dealer or did nobody get one? Similarly did anybody get a first aid kit or any other safety equipment?

We don't get these as standard in the UK. Despite all the safety equipment that does come as standard, VW thought it wise not to include something that retails for £4.50. Could save your life, so i'd get one bought.

Thanks Monkeyhanger. Seems like the one in the boot of an old bmw at work that we are disposing of to webuyanycar.com today is going to mysteriously find its way into my boot this morning then ...

I am surprised that warning triangles are not a legal requirement in the UK.
Quite how useful they are is another matter...
-
If you buy the VW accessory that is the first aid kit and high visibility vests etc you get the warning triangle in there.
Then you're covered for Euro driving requirements too.

I wonder how many people get run over when placing these triangles 450m back from their car, if they're not wearing a reflective vest when doing so.
-
Dealer threw the safety kit in for me without even asking.

Not very useful at all when people put them out about 10 feet from the back of their car.

Best is when the breakdown is over and they drive off leaving the triangle in the road.
Also France requires bright fluorescent jackets for breakdowns/accidents. Presumably these are because so many people got hit when putting out their warning triangles.
At least France dropped the requirement to carry a breathalyser in every car....

And I thought that was supposed to be the country where there wernt enough rules!

This is nearly right... The requirement to carry a breathalyser is still in force; however, there is no enforcement i.e. the French Police/Gendarme cannot fine you for not carrying one. Quite what that means is unclear so I carry some when I go...

As for the triangle, it's written as a standard equipment in every VW in the brochures in here. I think it is standard in every German car (except Opels...)

A warning about warning triangles .. I purchased the VW safety kit and the triangle in it doesn't fit into the slot on the boot lid. It's too fat. Anyone found one that does?
-
Does anyone have the correct part number for the triangle that fits inside the aperture in the boot lid. Just ordered one from my dealer but when it arrived, the red plastic case is far too big to fit in the recess ?
Thanks.

We ordered in about three in the end to find the one that actually fitted.
Part number is 8K0 860 251 ( made by GEBRA )

So this one definitely fits in the pocket in the boot? That's a B8 Audi A4 Part number.

Seems to be a fairly universal part as it's coming up as the same for Porsche Cayenne, VW Jetta etc
