So the suspension could do with changing or so I've told the missus. :lipsrsealed: :grin:
Not sure whether to go coilovers or shocks and springs. It's had all the bushes replaced now. In all fairness the rear springs making a noise I have a feeling it's snapped but haven't bothered to look.
The missus won't drive silly low and I'm not that fussed just want it to be a bit better than a boat round corners. It's never gonna be a Clio Cup but it doesn't look like I'll be getting one as a toy! :rolleyes:
Anyways, I've been told I can do the MK4 up a bit instead of getting a toy so I want something comfortable. I suppose I would prefer coilovers personally, just not sure how much they'd actually get used as coilovers.
Anyone recommend a decent shock/spring combo or decent coil overs that won't crash all over the place?
Second hand preferred as long as rebuild kits are available, because I'm a pikey.

Eibach springs / bilstien shocks seems to be a popular one.
I can say the best ride I had was with my eibachs!
Coilovers are just awful if your looking for comfort!
Looks good but pot holes feel like the Grand Canyon on coilovers!

Ah cool is that B4, B6 or B8 mate?
I do want something with better handling but want something that's gonna be comfortable too. Not that interested in spending hundreds and hundreds as it'll never be a go kart.

I'd got for B6's, they are designed for use with lowering springs whereas B4's are just OEM replacements. The Eibach/Bilstein setup is a very popular one for handling and performance.
Coilovers are a big no no if you want comfort, even if you run them high.

My old FK's were pretty comfortable on the MK3, when low they were firm but high they used to wobble about a bit. Trouble were they were flipping expensive and I got them cheap (still think they were off the back of a lorry).
B6 looks like a good set up or seen a B10 shock and spring kit for round the £500 mark brand new!

I've been running Weitec Ultra GT -40mm springs/shocks for about 3 months now - with 16" Montreal II's the comfort was great, and didn't feel like much of a step backward from the stock setup actually. Handling and looks were definitely way better though.
I've just put on a set of 18" Anni RC's last weekend and there is a slight loss of comfort - it's not harsh, but pretty much what you would expect when changing to a lower profile tyre I suppose. I use the car as my daily, and drive over speed bumps and a some pretty rotten road surfaces on my way to work every day - the set up copes with it really well, and a lot better than I'd expected.
The Eibach/Bilstein setup definitely seems like a popular choice, but for the money the Weitec's are pretty decent IMO :cool:

No complaints from my Eibach sportline 40mm drop springs and Weitec Ultra GT struts that ive been running the past couple of years. Feels much more planted without breaking a vertebrae.
I was hope to use Eibach on the new car but they dont make them for it afaik so il be going H&R this time with Bilsteins possibly.
