Title: Luggage compartment liner
Post by: mullermn on 04 November 2013, 10:26
Hi. Does anyone have any pictures showing the £45 VW luggage compartment liner, please? Also, does anyone know how/if it works with the two-height boot floor?

Trying to decide whether to get one but there are no photos of it in the VW accessories selector thing on the website.

Cheers..

Well, the item I'm currently looking at is the liner:

I see they also do a tray:

And a mat:

The liner seems to be cheapest, I'm just trying to work out if it will do the job properly.

Cheers..

The one I have in my Polo just now is great. Flexible and easily washed down.

Will be getting another for the Golf

I've got a tray in my MkV. It's a hard wearing plastic with a lip around the outside to contain the dirt. Good bit of kit. You may be able to buy one on eBay, as there are companies that specialise in making boot trays and they might be cheaper than VW.

I'd consider these guys: http://www.hatchbag.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1597

We have just purchased on for the g/f's BMW 1er and it is very good and easy to fit, plus you can order useful extra bits - we ordered the flap that covers the bumper to protect it from our clumsy Labrador...

I've the tray in mine and it's a great bit of kit if you have muddy/wet/etc stuff to put in the boot. However I also have the cargo net and you can't use the two together as the lip of the tray obscures the hooks at the bottom of the boot making the net useless.

I bought the reversible liner (fabric on one side, nibbed rubber on the other, with a piece of fabric which folds out to cover and protect the rear load lip) on Saturday. £85 list price but dealer gave me 10% off since I bought the GTI from them

The liner is full size for when you have the seats down i.e. stretches fully back to the front seats, so when you don't have them down it has to be folded in two - there is a crease point on the rubber side to help it fold. It is a bit of a tight fit getting it into the boot with the seats up and getting it settled correctly but it does appear to be correctly sized. I did have the luggage floor at the bottom position to accommodate the dog and the liner didn't sit well in that position but it was OK.  The dog didn't get as wet and dirty as I expected so I could have managed without it, but nice to have the reassurance I guess.

The only thing I didn't like was that my fingers were very itchy after fitting it as if it had lots of loose tiny sharp fibres from the manufacturing process (think of the sort of itch you get from glass fibre loft insulation). The dog had a bed to lie in so she didn't seem to have itchy paws though, but that could be an issue.
