Hi all, I recently joined the forum. Always promised myself a Golf GTI, and have finally bought a 73,000 mile 2001 Mk 4 1.8T. Lovely car, but has a couple of problems. It has intermittent fault codes 17705, 17608 (not listed), 17536. Having looked them up, I still don't understand what they mean - and whether I can fix it myself? I am no good with tools!! After I clear the codes, the engine feels like it is running on 3 cylinders for a couple of miles.
When I first start the car in the morning, mpg average is typically 7 mpg (yes, seven!), rising to about 33mpg as the engine warms up during the first part of my journey.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

If you are not handy with tools then take the car to a garage.
