Hi Guys
I am toying with the idea of purchasing a stainless steel exhaust system to my valver, can anyone recommend any particular companies? Can you chose how loud or how quiete the sound is or do you basically get what ur given?
cheers
Paul

If your getting a straight through system then it will have a loud rumble now matter what
-
dunno im currently looking at magnex full system and manifold from awesome gti £365 plus VAT I know that magnex sound nice because a mate has one. In the past when I have had S/S systems made up they tend to be a little hit and miss and you dont know really what they are gonna sound like until they are on the car.
Hope this helps

I'm looking at the Magnex system off awesome too - I'm not sure it plus VAT as there's no mention of it on their web site :undecided:
-
To be honest in i am not that bothered if its loud, its the quality of the sound that i am after, I dont want it to sound like some Boy'd up saxo or corsa with more back boxes than they have brain cells!
That sort of price sound quite reasonable, a full system is def my next major purchase!
What sort of power increase would this bring, is it much coz i have heard different things from different people!
cheers
Paul

yeah 365 quid plus vat so about 480 in total then you gotta get someone to fit it magnex sound low and beefy tho, maybe we should look at a group buy and then maybe get a discount on it

Got a Magnex S/S complete on my 89 8v. Mine was a little more expensive then prices mentioned, around £700 fitted... In my opinion money well spent, have bearly used the stereo since......

I have a powerflow, and blue it won't be loud no matter what, thats why they weld restrictor plates in as you want them, it reduces the sound.
Powerflow, mated up to my custom manifold was £320 all in. Some of the tidiest welding i have ever seen and sounds mint. It was a guy in stafford if you want his number then let me know.

I had a stainless system and hated it  they are ok over a short distance but migrain inducing over a distance. Got rid of it and replaced with VW longlife system

mongoose 16v system is the best fitting system ive seen and the backbox is gorg looking, just fills the recess perfectly

Ehhh Longlife would of used Stainless Steel if they made a VW style system. Unless, they just fitted a VW System you bought from VW :p
Down here in Cardiff we got a few places. Longlife, Pro-Speed and Z-Ex. All pretty good. You go in, tell them the car. They ask what style exit you want and how you want it to sound.
Had three cars all with Custom made stainless steel systems, all better then off the self. You can have the bore and style of the system design to what type of perfomance you want. Want Low-Mid Torque? Faster top end? Custom made is the way to go. Just tell them you dont want to sound like a cock in a 1.2 Corsa with a 9" Jap box!

My car on the RR with a 2" Stright through system. Gives some indication as to what a 1.4 sounds like ;)

awesome seem expensive these days

Got a Milltek front pipe to back (couldn't afford the manifold) on mine and its works just how i wanted it too. Good fitting and it only sounds loud if i put my foot down, cruising on motorway and i barely notice it, flooring it up a quiet road with walls and windows open and it sounds like a spitfire! (K&N may have a little to do with that) Either way soooo much better than the Peco DTM :lipsrsealed: on my last one!!

I got my new system from VW main dealer they have two options standard and longlife which is supposed to last longer :undecided:
-
I get the feeling that longlife in "vag" terms means its a slightly harder wearing metal grade not a stainless system.
-
Oh lol thought you ment the company Longlife !
Heres the link again for my car on a RR http://homepage.ntlworld.com/james.logue1/rrpt2.wmv
btw, full systems from the Manifold back always cost me £250. And thats fitted etc so it does work as the same or slighty cheaper (Due to no delivery costs) then off the shelf Mongoose system for example!
-
cheers guys,
but I dnt know which one to buy now!!
I dnt really want to spend more than £400, and am not too bothered about fitting as i will get my mate to do it (handy having a mate as a mechanic!)
-
If you are going to get one done and are willing to spend that much, then make sure you see some of his previous work, I.E. turn up at the workshop during the week and have a look under the car he is doing.
When you finally decide book it in, and turn up and hour before he says it will be ready, as you will be able to see the welds and see him getting it in position, if you do not like it then do not be afraid to challenge him. After all its your hard earned pennies.
-
Yea definately, i am abit warey of going to one of these frachises in case they are shoddy, as i have heard mixed things about places like powerflow but each one is different isnt it!
-
Indeed they are, the guy i went too was mint, never seen such tidy welds, and doesn't mind you standing there and wandering round looking when he is out pipe bending etc.
Powerflow around london are the worst to suffer i think, but as i say just check workmanship before you commit.
