So I went to pick the car up yesterday to get it ready for its MOT tomorrow
On the way home I stopped to put £40 petrol in it, got back in the car and it won't start properly
It starts for 1 - 2 seconds then cuts out? If I rev as I'm starting it it will start to rev then just cut out?
HELP
-
Sounds like an immobliser problem to me. Try and get it scanned
-
I have a diagnostic reader on its way, that will be here Tuesday
I think it's either fuel pump, fuel pump relay, immobiliser or engine temp sensor but we will see
-
So... After a scan its come up 3 fault codes
Engine
17978 = Engine start blocked by immobilizer
00561 = Mixture adaptation: adaptation limit (add) exceeded
SRS
00532 = Supply voltage B+: signal too low
First off the battery was sat flat on the car for not far off a year but after starting and taking for a run its been charged and worked fine
I guess the battery is gone and the low power from this is causing the immobilizer to cry and not start the car?
New battery needed
-
If you have a spare key give that a try. Weak transponders and weak receivers are the usual culprits.
-
The mate who i got the car off still has the spare key, will get it over the next few days
I deleted all the fault codes and it only come back up with 17978 = Engine start blocked by immobilizer
I have another battery but need to fit a new rad hose before trying, rad hose should be here tomorrow
I will keep you updated
-
A little update, still not started
Things ive tried:
Disconnecting battery for 10 mins
Disconnect battery and hold terminals together for 30 seconds
Tried known decent battery
Leave ignition on for 5 mins switch off then try
Switch ignition on / off 10 times then try
Checked all fuses
Checked key transponder isnt damaged
Things to try:
Spare key (later today)
Check immo coil and connections
Check cluster and connections
Get keys reprogrammed
Replace immo coil
Replace cluster
Replace immo
Replace ECU
Get someone to do immo defeat
Buy ECU with immo defeat
The problem is starting to drive me mad now, fingers crossed the spare key works otherswise it starts getting complicated
I will update again soon

post a pic of your engine, if it's a later type I can delete the immo for you.

Yes the fuel pumps makes a noise when you turn ignition on and when i try to start the car it smells of petrol bad for a few seconds

Ah I can't do the agu ecu's. Anything 2000 onwards (aum, auq, arz etc) I can help with
