Guys
1997 GTI 8valve. Bought new Bosch dizzy cap and rotor online. tried to fit them, but the dizzy cap is different-the fitting cutouts are in the wrong place. Were there two types of dizzy on the 8V ? I thought it would be Bosch, but the old cap says "Sagem" on it ?
Cheers

If i remember correctly when purchasing the same thing for my 16v they asked for the colour of my dizzy cap to determine the make of mine, orange is Bosch you must have the other type these are very cheap from any motor factors im sure i payed no more than £15 for both arm and cap.
Just ensure to ask about bolts holes how many and position ect they should be able to help over the phone and maybe even provide you with a part number.

yep, there were two systems, Bosch and Sagem supplied the whole distributors, VW put in whatever was on the shelf on the day.
If the old one says Sagem you need to buy one for that system.
Beru for example sell for both systems, which have different rotors and caps.
You can change the whole distributor but since you need to then align with diagnostics PC I would only do that if the hall sender is fecked, plus whole dizzy = £££.
