Title: tweaking the bluefin... what's that about?
Post by: candywhite12 on 01 November 2013, 07:17
So bluefin it is. After arduous research and having tried the more powerful but also much more expensive revo remap, i am getting the bluefin (but not until next month so still a few questions to answer before that).

i noticed many of the threads here talk about superchips tweaking your map if you tell them what you want altering.  As i am new to this, what things would someone want altering?

i would really appreciate any info on this as this is the last step before actually ordering the thing.

PS i drive a DSG.

thanks

I had a slight hasitation at 3000 rpm so got them to change the map and it was fine after

As far as I know they don't tweak the map, in most cases they send you the manual map and then when you call them about the flat spot they send you the right map!!

so you are saying there's ALWAYS a flat spot??

In the majority of cases that I've seen here, DSG users seem to be sent the manual map, as a result there is a flat spot.

A new map is e-mailed if that happens and it's superb.

Mkvikens car is manual.

Happened to me as well, sent the manual Map first and then the DSG map.

No flat spot afterwards, throttle response is linear and instant.

Just turned 40K miles and the car is such a joy to drive at the moment.

but if SC know it's a DSG they are sending the map for why would they send the map for a manual?  The last thing i need is to pay 400 pounds and spend more time than needed to upload two maps.  I'm sorry but that's a deal breaker for me, if i order a DSG map i demand a DSG map the first time round.  This surprises me though since i've only read good reviews on SC's customer service on this forum.  When i spoke to Michael at SC the other day, i specifically enquired about the DSG map and he just said I should specify that when i email them my factory settings and then i'd get the map for the DSG.  Could it be that some people failed to do that in the first place?

It may not be that simple though.
As I said mkviken had a flat spot and his is a manual not dsg. Maybe its something else different by vw rather than simply gearbox that makes the map have a flat spot that they have to give a different map for.

Yes, it was my fault, I wasn't aware of a different map, as the MK5 had the same map as the manual.

SC were excellent and it took no time at all to change it over.

my flat spot was caused by demanding too much boost so on a neutral throttle at certain rpms the car didn't like it and hesitated

they sent me a map with reduced boost between 2800rpm-3000rpm and it solved it

it had nothing to to do with the wrong map being sent for my car

my flat spot was only noticeable on a light acceleration from a neutral throttle over a band of around 200 rpm and only happened rarely

with the new map it was spot on

I would think (hope) that Superchips would run their guinea pig car on the rollers and do some live data mapping on the open road and the generic sale Bluefin map would be a 'best average' map that was fairly safe for clutches and other components.
They would then have several other maps and loads of data from the test runs that would allow them to adjust boost and ignition amongst other settings for customers that reported problems.
I've had remaps altered in the past on a TDI where I experienced clutch slip in the higher gears. A quick change or the torque graph to make it less spiky and hey presto, the clutch never slipped again and the car was near as dammit just as quick.

Particularly as cars get older and components wear you're bound to get variations in how cars respond to maps so a generic remapper will have several files available as it's not practical for them to examine every single vehicle they come across.

Did you ever get round to having the car rolling roaded as I always wondered what the difference the map on yours made compared to stock on paper?
