Guys am loosing sleep over what colour to order for my 5 door Gti..... :undecided:
I have 2 weeks to play with till the cut off date to make my mind up!!!
As it stands the car is going to be Pure White, but was into my local dealer on Monday and he had a customers car in the valet bay getting polished up ready for hand over.
Now it's got me thinking, shall I change to carbon grey????
Looks so much more mature and has a great shine...

i had the same decision, ordered in white but changed my mind to carbon grey, In reality I think the car looks stunning in all colours !

Ha ha! Yeah… order a few different ones to match your mood!!!! :grin: But now seriously :nerd: I agree, Carbon grey is more mature, I don't think it will get starred at as much as a white one, because it's more reserved. The white shouts boy racer. You'd defo need to clean it more, but you may want to anyway! Which suits you best? I went for Reflex Silver, and know many on here think it's a bit old hat and boring, but I like it. Everyone's different. Go with what's right for you.

I too had the same quandry.................ordered in white, then changed to red, then back to white & actually tried to change it about 6 weeks ago but was told it would have to be a new order (& the back of the queue!)
Stuck with white & it was delivered yesterday..................it's stunning
I really don't think it matters what colour you get, the car looks amazing.
The white is good as it shows of the definition lines on the doors fantastically
I've seen a tornado red, flat black n midnight blue (i think) in the flesh......all looked great
Colour is so subjective & a personal choice, only thing that would put me off white is that there are so many white cars on the road at the moment.
The one thing you have to remember is the other white cars on the road are 'ordinary' at best, this is a work of art :cool:

I agree, the GTi and gtd look stunning in white. I'd never really liked white cars before and wanted the carbon grey, but my husband thought it was too dark for the gtd and in the end we went for red. We saw a white GTi when we were picking our car up and we were both drooling over it! It's really classy. With the red GTi detailing though I think all the colours look fantastic. I think the best advice is not to worry too much as the car looks so good whatever colour you choose :smiley:

Personally I don't think you can beat Tornado Red. It's a proper old school hot hatch colour, you can get a superb shine on it and it will still stand out on a dull day. I don't think any of the other colours do that.

I really like the Silver - in fact this was the colour I was going to go for (with black leather) until the sales guy talked me out of it saying it doesn't look right and silver cars harder to sell...ended up with DPB with cloth seats - looks fabulous but in hindsight, should have stuck to my guns.
I see someone on here has got the silver/leather, and it truly looks fantastic (in my eyes anyway)

am still in limbo on what colour to choose, think am leaning towards Pure white.....so hope I dont see any more Carbon grey to unsettle my mind lol......

The only colour I'm not mad on is the Midnight Blue (I think?) - I love Carbon Grey, but I like Limestone grey even more!
I went for Tornado Red because I had a Mk5 in that colour, and it looks stunning when properly polished and some expensive wax applied (I'm a detailer hobbyist!) but white would also look amazing. The only thing that slightly puts me off white is that the road tar spots are more visible.

Yup I suppose that's one of the down sides of the White, with the tar spots :angry:
It will be a weekly routine to keep on top of the washing & polishing, since the winter is setting in....
What ever colour is choose, am sure I will be over the moon :smug:

As long as your vigilant and every now and again go over the (white) car in fine detail to remove tar spots then you should be fine. I was at the Scottish Car show earlier in the year (more like a car enthusiasts show) and picked up a few cleaning products including maxolen tar remover which i had never heard of before and i can say it works a treat and smells good as well.
Three months into ownership and im so glad i went with white. It is so much easier to keep clean than my previous three black cars :smiley:

My car seems to be dribbling a little bit of cavity wax or something similar every time I wash the car. You just see a little streak of it going down the sill about 6” in from the front edge of the front door. It collects road grime but wipes off quite easily.

Exactly! The best solution I've found is to coat the car in a Ceramic Sealant. My Mother In Law has a White Range Rover Evoque which I've coated in Definitive Wax HCC PRO back in Jan 2013 and it's resistance to tar (and everything else for that matter) is amazing. Even when it's really dirty, a quick snow foam and jet wash and the dirt just falls off it! Tar won't stick to it and it looks amazing when clean.

Thats why my car has c-quartz ceramic sealant on it rather than wax. Absolutely no issues :wink:

I have used AutoGylm products since 2001 and they perform well.

Autoglym doesn’t protect against tree sap or bird sh!te – doubt it’s doing much against tar either.

Really, I beg to differ, if you have a good coat on your car, cleaning things like bird boo, tar and general dirt are easier.
Depends on what products you use really, I used AutoGylm HD wax.

I really wanted steel grey on my Mk7 GTI. It looks great on my Mk6 GTD :cool: Ended up with Carbon Grey in the end after looking at all the choices.

The problem with AutoGlym is not the product itself! (I'm assuming you're talking about dealer applied Lifeshine kit). The product is actually 'OK' (not the best but not as bad as some people make out).
The problem is that the dealer employed valeters either a) don't get the correct training in the application of the product or b) don't get an adequate time to apply it. I'd be inclined to say that it's a combination of the two!
With sealants systems like LifeShine, Supaguard, Gtechniq, CQuartz and many others, it's incredibly important to clean and prepare the surface to allow the sealant to bond properly. Once it's bonded, most need 8-10 hours dry curing time before they are fully effective. I'd hazard a guess that the dealer valeters don't spend more than 1 hour per car prepping it for collection, never mind the 6-8 (sometimes many more) hours it takes to apply the system correctly. That's not their fault, or the product's fault, its the fact that dealers don't have the time or budget to allow valeters to spend a full day prepping a car! (fully understandable from a financial point of view)
The issue of the price... £400 is ridiculous. You could get a professional detailer to spend a full day prepping the car with results 20 x better for £200-250 without doubt. The difference would be immeasurable!
I would be buying separate products which do a much better job and it would cost < £200

The fact that sap and sh!te needs to be removed "immediately" to avoid paint discolouration with the wipes they provide makes me think that Autoglym lifeshine doesn't provide much of a barrier to protect the paint.

Exactly! So given that it takes me 2 hours just to give my car a 'quick wash' using proper techniques, I'd say it's not possible to prep a car properly in that time to acceptable standards and get the best out of the products used!
I'm only a hobby detailer but I now tell all my friends/family to refuse the treatment from the dealer and I spend a full day on the car for a few beer tokens. When the products are still going after 12 months (as in my Mother-In-Laws case) then it's a no brainer.

Shouldnt listen to salesman. When I bought my mk6 I had exactly the same. One local dealer even refused to order it in my choice of colour. I stuck to my guns and glad I did. The colour is one of the things I get so many positive coments about all the time.
Silver was my second choice but owning two other silver cars I wanted a change. I do miss it not been silver as silver hides the dirt. If I buy a mk7 it will be silver no question about it and salesman again will be ignored.
Also not many people know but the original mk1 GTI was at release only available in two colours. Those colours were red and silver. So silver is the original metallic GTI colour :wink:

Snoopy, I'm with you on the Silver. And your'e right, it got it's roots firmly planted back with the Mk1, so it's good to keep the tradition going.
On the AutoGlym Life Shine front, I'm defo gonna ask this not to be carried out by the dealer now. Anyone know a mighty fine detailer round West Yorkshire or Lancashire way?

I still think CSG is the nicest colour I've seen, but my lethargy towards car cleaning made me order a silver car...which I think is the second best colour...but obviously, I'm biased!
