Title: Over heating
Post by: mcgee9t2 on 27 October 2013, 09:41
Yesterday car started over heating.

I know the Tstat was sticking open before meaning it wouldn't quite hit90. Is it possible for it now to be stuck closed?
Any way I can test water pump?

Need the car tomorow so i have to fix it today which is going to be a f**king nightmare.

I would look at the stat being stuck shut mate. One way to test would be to see if your pipes from the stat housing to the rad are actually warm when the car reaches around 90. If you take the stat out you can check the impellor on the pump apparently?

As above take your stat out and you can put your finger in and feel if the waterpump impellor is still connected,it may be broken up,normally you should have water flowing through the small pipe to the expansion bottle if the pump is working

To remove the tsat I'm guessing I'm going to have to drain all the coolant?

yes mate unfortunately. You'll be able to catch most of it via the drain tap on the left hand side of the rad though
