Just driving to the misses parents in norfolk was very suprised to see 42.7 MPG on my dials its a 200 mile round trip and tbh did not drop below 39mpg on the winding roads with lots of round abouts
Whats the best youve ever done on what petrol I was using tesco's super fuel stuff not sure of name. Used a quarter of a tank from full so probs just over a quarter.
-
I used to get 40+ when I had abf ,how I miss that sorter mpg
-
I've received 43.6 in my 8V GTI.
-
42 odd mpg on m/way but to get that i had to do 60 mph.Doing 70 gave me 37 and 80 dropped it down to 32 but i dont rely on the MFA.
Most accurate way i know is to fill car up,do 100 miles or even 200 and then refill from same pump, same garage and then calculate how much fuel it takes to refill.Work from the first "click" and push nozzle right in.
-
Pa I get 40mpg in my 3.2 straight 6
the abf is not good on fuel
-
My 8v gets 30 if im lucky, I will use this to justify my next purchase

Mines about the same on the motorway and mid twenties around town etc. For this reason ive gone derv.

Over 30,000 miles of mixed road driving I've had on average 36mpg and best 41mpg
That's on brim to brim fill ups religiously recorded on the RoadTrip app.
-
My cammed 8v did 25mpg on average over thousands of miles.
-
I recorded 49mpg with a 2 litre 8v and rod change diesel gearbox. couldn't believe it. just normal everyday driving to.
-
Was that your calculations or using the MFA as I seriously doubt it.
-
was my own calculations. went by the 1 click same pump and same station method. and that was an average. it was a mk2 btw.
-
49.9mpg
This week I have an average of 40mpg over a tank, on course to easily hit 400miles out of about 47/48 litres (currently on 352miles and hovering just above the red).
My journey in today averaged 43.6mpg over 51miles
You cannot fault the 16v ABF engine, it is superb. Power, sound and efficiency
*Edit* this is in my mk3 16v GTI ABF engine - my mk2 16v I've only managed 41.5mpg in, K-jet can't hack it compared to digi management.
-
I was very surprised with fuel economy in my ABF i had a 2.l Twinspark alfa and that was shocking on fuel 380 miles from full tank about 70 litres driving super carefully and was a long motorway journey so good mpg you would think.

A tank and a half got me 403 miles yesterday.
I must say how uncomfortable the golf was to drive, i was a cripple last night apart from my leg on foot rest every thing else was pain.
Should have taken the volvo oil burner

Was this town driving, cos that's not great otherwise?!
Also, pretty sure on the GTIs, if not all models, the foot rest is stupidly (curse you VW!!) on the accelerator side, so you must not have been doing too much travelling!
I've just finished my last tank, result being: 405 miles to 48 litres (1 tank with 7 litres left in reserve) = 38.36mpg, which in reality was only about 1 mpg off of the reading on the gauge.
Alot of people like to jump on the bandwagon and harp on about how the gauges lie, but in reality in the mk3 (and I've heard the mk2 is the same) they are actually very reliable.
My mpg was calculated using the brimming method.
I'm well on course to smash 405 miles on this tank as my average mpg is currently reading 43.6mpg!
Got to have some sort of challenge to stave off the monotony of motorway driving I guess!
-
On my 12 mile each way commute, a tank only does about 250 miles in my 8V.

Nope M25/M3/A303/M5 all the way to Totnes and back....
I have the option footrest next to the clutch
Tank was brimmed on super unleaded near my house and somewhere near Honition or was it Yeovil, cant remember as I was cursing with back pain
My MFA does not work so I cant comment on how accurate it is
-
My mfa reads 1 mpg allways. I don't think its accurate....
-
Going by my MFA I think 44 MPG is the best I've got on a long motor way drive at around 60 MPH, kept dropping when I got too tunnels for some reason
